Firstly the positives, lovely venue, lovely setting and great atmosphere. Some of the food was amongst the best I've ever tasted, the red cabbage with my venison was off the charts good, the pistachio + fois gras combination was amazing and the lamb was super tasty. The sommelier was also very helpful, and had a wine list that didn't leave you lacking in choice. It was also nice given that the only options are fixed menus that people on the table didn't all have to pick from the same menu, as is common in a lot of restaurants in France.
There were a couple of bits that for me pushed it down from being truly amazing, firstly, although the waiters were very helpful I think they erred a little bit on too polite! For the lamb, it would be good to have had a bit more suggestion on how it should be cooked (it was quite fatty, so a bit more well done would have been great), our waiter however said we could have it any way we liked and it would all be good, whereas without knowing exactly what the cut was like we could have done with more guidance. Also the first couple of courses on both menus were good, but not inspiring, which when compared with the quality of the fois gras, mains and deserts was a bit of a shame.
The only other suggestion I would have would be that it would be good to have two different matching wine selections. The option we were given was good value, but was almost entirely European wine, which is great for Americans and matches with the cuisine of the restaurant, but as we were tourists visiting from Europe we would actually have liked to try an American wine pairing!
