“Great stay at a great price”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 days ago NEW

For accommodation so close to the strip, the value we got from the 2 bedroom apartment was astonishing. There was a free shuttle in to the strip but to be honest myself, wife, three kids 2, 5, and 7 didn't mind walking to and from the strip whether in the morning or very late at night.

We spent 4 nights here but you could easily live in these apartments for much longer. The only downer was the attempt to "con" us (think time share peddlers in spain!) by offering us free this and free that before they even mentioned we had to endure a 2 1/2 hour tour of the facilities to get their goodies. Minor blip just be aware.

Overall highly recommended.

I stayed here with my husband, father, and my uncle in a 2 bedroom unit.
The property is pretty big with three different towers - Tower 3 being the newest and the one we stayed in. The gentleman checking us in (I can't remember his name, unfortunately) was extremely pleasant and very accommodating. I asked if he could get us a room on an upper level, facing the strip and he got us exactly that! Getting our parking pass from the next desk was the one of the things keeping this resort from getting a 5 instead of a 4. Having been Wyndham owners for 20+ years, we knew the deal with them trying to set you up with a timeshare spiel. My Dad and I were very pleasant and very upfront saying "no thanks. We're not interested in the 'group breakfast" but of course, James had to try a few different angles. I 100% understand that that's their job but c'mon. No means no. We just got into town for our vacation! Sitting there biting his cheek and looking aggitated is NOT going to convince us to do it to please him. Anyway...
The buildings were very clean and the room was comfortable. Everything you could need right in the unit. Our only complaint on the room was the fact that you have to run the water for 10-15 mins in order for it to get warm - let alone hot. For a resort that prides itself on being 'green' it sure is a waste to have to run the water for so long. As other reviewers have noted - they have energy efficient lights in the bathroom that take a few minutes to come on fully, so don't freak out!
The shuttle between the Grand Desert and Harrah's was such a nice convenience! It was always there when it was supposed to be and the drivers were extremely pleasant. Truthfully, everyone we came in contact with at Wyndham was very nice. I'd much rather stay here than somewhere on the strip!

Rooms were spacious and clean. Front desk was pleasant. I appreciate them helping with luggage, shuttles and room calls we had. The pool was very nice and relaxing. thank you for a great stay. We will be back.

We had a 2-bedroom suite. Loved the large bathroom with walk-in shower and huge jacuzzi tub. We took advantage of the in-room laundry a few times. The staff were very nice although the guy trying to book us on a tour of the property was pretty pushy. Overall it was quiet. The furniture was WORN OUT. The mattresses in both bedrooms gave so much that my husband and I were about to roll of the bed on our own sides and the second bedroom the head area was lower than your feet AND I HATE DOWN PILLOWS. Why is everyone going to these? The couch and chair in the living room sat on the springs and actually gave us backache after a while. The bar stool next to the phone was about to break it was so wobbily. Everything in the kitchen worked well. We didn't use the dining room table so I'm not sure what shape it was in. The way the property is laid out with the pool in the center of the buildings it created a wind tunnel and was too chilly to go swimming every day we were there of the week which was disappointing. Coming from the north we were looking forward to it. We would stay here again. Overall we were happy but definitely some things that need to be addressed. Oh and we could almost never get on the WiFi.

Room Tip: Ask for Tower 2 - it's actually the main tower.

Easy check in. Rooms were great. Quiet at night, maybe an airplane or two, no concern. Biggest problem is using your room key (required) to access your room floor. Keys barely evet work. You can stand in the elevator forever inserting the card, trying to push the button for your floor. Most aggravating. They are aware, but nothing has happened in several years. Same with sliding the key in your door, then finding you have to walk back forever to the lobby to get another key. Other than that, most everything else was fine.

Going in, we knew this was a time-share resort and knew that there would be salespeople. And let's face it, condo salespeople have no soul. They will tell you whatever they think they need to to make the sale. So we skipped the presentation. You don't have to do it, just take your information packet and walk away.

As to the resort, it's pretty nice, even if it is a different experience than being in a casino hotel on the strip. Know what you want before you book this. For the first few days, it felt like a lot of effort to leave the hotel to get anywhere, but it's Vegas, you expect to do a lot of walking anyway, right?

The rooms are clean and large with modern amenities. It's nice not having to worry about housekeeping. The pools are a decent size, but in April, they were quite busy and mid-afternoon most of the chairs around the adult pool were taken. The pools are in the sun during for most of the day, although you may have to move around a bit to follow it. And the hot tubs are open 24 hours.

The underground parking was nice to keep the car cooler since it was quite warm while we were there.

In the end, we opted to use our car to get around most of the time which helped us get off the strip more than we normally would. The clean, quiet rooms and friendly staff (as long as you avoid the sales staff) made our stay pleasant and I would absolutely return.

The Grand Desert is a nice resort about 5 blocks from the Vegas Strip. There are lots of things to love about this resort: 3 separate pools, one exclusively for adults. The pool at Tower 3 is open 24 hrs. All of the hot tubs are open for 24 hours. There are plenty of shuttles to take you back and forth to the Strip (until 10 pm). They even have a shuttle that makes trips to the grocery store. Take advantage of it, because The Market Place (the resort convenience store) is very expensive. A dozen eggs is $5, a block of cheese is $8. The Oasis Grill on site has decent food, the pizza was pretty darn good actually. The rooms are nice, better in Tower 3 since it's the newest. But Tower 3 is off to the side and doesn't feel part of the resort. Many of them even have hot tubs in the rooms. The resort is close to the airport...about a 10 minute and $10 cab drive. BUT, being so close to the airport you hear the planes taking off and landing...all night. The Las Vegas Airport never closes. The worst thing about the Grand Desert, as with EVERY Wyndham resort, is that it's a time share. And being such, they are constantly trying to sell. If you're an owner they want you to upgrade. If you're a guest they want you to buy. At check-in they will offer you $100 and lunch or breakfast to sit through an "update" or "tour" as an incentive. And once in, it can be high pressure. By the adult pool I actually heard on representative giving a tour to a husband and wife and he was berating them. I didn't hear the entire conversation, but what I did hear wasn't pleasant. In a harsh manner he asked why they were hesitating. That they were short staffed and not to waste his time if they weren't sure. It made me uncomfortable, I can't imagine how the couple felt. So do yourself a favor; skip the sales pitch at all cost.
Wyndham has some great properties, but ownership can be very expensive. And there are plenty of people renting out their points to try and help defer the cost of ownership. A quick Google search will bring up lots of these sites. Or you can just go through Wyndham and rent.
