“erratic greatness”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 8, 2013

They do some things very well and others very poorly. Hotel bar is poorly stocked for wine with selection deplorable. Pools and jacuzzis fine but one jaccuzi needed cleaning and deadfall from landscape vegetation needed sweeping. Left this way for at least two days. Good news is that after going through a two confused two part check in process ( I nick named the clerk crazy Eddie) and then the old time share fraud of making you visit the semi-sales desk, there was no more hassle for trying to make another sale. Oh, the big fraud is making you speak with someone to get your parking permit. Making us go through this scam every time at every location defies credulity and remains an insult.
OK, this is our third time and this place serves us well. Location, shuttles and overall atmosphere is fine for us. Believe me we have stayed in far worse in the Wyndham chain with this location one of the best.

Room Tip: After. Asking your reservations call the resort and ask for whatever you may need. We didn't ask...

if you're interested in a quiet stay, i guess this would be the place. there is no staff at the dersk of the tower we stayed in after 5 pm... what? no staff? yep, they all leave their station because no new suckers are coming in the door thinking they had booked a regular hotel... is your wife with you? how much do you make? give me a break. fooled by one of the major booking webistes into thinking this was a regular hotel at a decent price for a 2 bedroom suite i foolishly booked a time share rental. want your room cleaned? $100 extra, want clean towels, put yours out in the hallway and wait 15 minutes. want help with your bags? the place is so confusing to get around, the front desk suggested the bellman meet you in your room and then you take him down to the car to get your bags... really? i would have gladly paid the extra $20 / room for the hotel amenities. see ya!

Room Tip: if you expect a hotel room dont stay here

Checkin was NOT GOOD. We waited an hour before I went to the lobby to find out when they might get around to delivering our baggage to our room. They were not that busy....no excuse. If I ever return, i'll handle my own bags.
Everything else very good. Staff friendly..rooms fairly quiet.

Don't buy anything at the hotel "Market Plact"....very highly inflated prices--3 bucks for a 12 oz cola when you can get them in a machine on the floor for far less.

Oh, almost forgot. The bar is sub-standard....wanted a wine....they had only a very bad red ,, no white wine.....amazing

Room Tip: we landed on the side that faced the strip (Las Vegas Bld)...getting the other side would land you f...

We recently hosted a family reunion/wedding reception in Vegas. In preparation we went out several months in advance and stayed at the Wyndham to evaluate it for 3 adults and 4 grandchildren. Very impressed. We stayed in a two bedroom-two bath suite with living room and kitchen and dining room. They have great pool facilities/hot tubs, game room for kids, and available food. We went back the second time a few weeks ago, stayed in a different tower and again had a very positive experience. Any request for service was responded to within 15 minutes with a follow up phone call to check on completion. We prefer staying off-strip. The hotel offers a shuttle which works well or taxis are fine. No gambling onsite....yes!! Great for kids. Highly recommended.

Had a great week here with friends. Facilities were brilliant. Unit had a washer dryer and kitchen facilities. We were just half a block from the strip. Had a great tour from here to the grand canyon. Very central. Well worth it.

Ten of my friends (mid twenties) and I stayed at the Grand Desert from Dec 28th through January 1st. We were in tower 3. Seven of us in a two bedroom, four of us in a one bedroom. Wyndham was very nice to put our rooms only a few doors down from each other. The rooms were very nice and a number of people in my party used the kitchen a few times. Everything we needed was there. The walls must be really thick or something because not only did I never hear anyone in the room next to ours, but I never even heard people in our room get back in the wee hours of the morning. We used the pool and the hottub a number of times. Very beautiful area. The fitness center was adequate for our needs.

The staff was wonderful. We arrived super late Friday night (you know how traveling in the winter is...) and the woman who checked us in was great. She even gave us a bottle of wine and box of chocolates... .just because. THAT was very much needed.

We used the shuttle a number of times and only had one time where we waited a little longer than we would have liked. The first shuttle was full so we had to wait for another. The hotel was booked though, with many wanting to get to the strip so its something we understood.

I would stay here again in a heartbeat, for the right trip. Its a fantastic facility and if I needed a condo while in Vegas (lots of friends/family/kids) then this is where I would stay. It is within walking distance and everything about this place is great. However, if I were to go back with a few friends/boyfriend/etc, I would stay on the strip. One, I don't cook, so I don't need the kitchen. The experience of trying the restaurants is fun. Two, the convenience of walking right onto the strip would be nice.

So, again, if you want the amenities of a condo, STAY HERE. But it is a half mile walk to the strip.

I've visited this property 3 times now, and each time is quite different from the last. This time I could not give it 5 stars because they cancelled the MUCH needed strip shuttle at 3:00 2 out of the 3 days on my trip (without prior notice of course). You can walk to the strip-but it's about a 20 minute walk-1 mile for sure. Not too bad, but considering you will spend the entire day and night walking around Vegas it's simply too much to walk back and forth to the property if you wanted to drop off the kids for a swim, drop off the packages you bought, or to go back to eat lunch or dinner before hitting the strip again. Cabs are crazy expensive because they charge when they are not moving---and believe me the traffic is thick and you will spend a lot of time sitting and paying.

Room Tip: Face the pools for the best view
