We spent a half day away from Las Vegas exploring the Spring Mountains, Kyle Canyon and Lee Canyon areas. The elevations top off at around 11,000 feet, and some of the views are breathtaking. Lots of forest, canyon, mountain views. The air is much cooler here, and there was plenty of snow when we visited in mid-January. Many locals were visiting, just enjoying the snow and sledding with their children. We took a car ride thru some of the neighborhoods, and the homes are used for vacation homes, for the most part. I suggest a visit to the Kyle Canyon Visitor Center, and enjoy a walk thru the displays that are outside. It is a small place, so wil not take up too much time. The store itself could use more merchandise. There is also an excellent restaurant called the Mt. Charleston Lodge, which I highly recommend for lunch or a dinner.
