This is an amazing hotel. We are not staying at the Mandarin, but on our way into the bar, we realized that we had forgotten to print our tickets for the show that night and the concierge was exceptionally helpful in this regard.
Now, on to the bar! It is a beautiful, sophisticated and trendy bar, but I never felt that it was snobby or snooty. As for what people were wearing, there was everything from shorts and t-shirts to evening wear. We got a table by the window just as the sun was setting. This is a fantastic view of the city. Our waitress was great. Very relaxed but attentive. The drinks were expensive (about $18 for a cocktail) but very good. The sliders were also quite good. The calamari, however, was just average, nothing special.
I guess from reviews ranking this the #2 restaurant in the city, my hopes were set awfully high. Don't get me wrong, it is a great bar, great staff, great drinks, great view. But with the average food and high prices, I'm very glad I went, but don't quite know why it's #2.
If you're looking for a romantic but hip place to take a date for a drink, though, this is definitely the place to go. Don't waste your time with the food.
