There is more than one outfitter/livery service that provides guided and/or unguided services in Black Canyon. The Hacienda Hotel, which is used by all of the outfitters authorized to launch at Hoover Dam as an embarkation point to the launch site, houses the office of Black Canyon River Adventures, one of the outfitters. We used Boulder City River Riders, a relatively new company. They provided us with shuttle service to and from the river and handled the launch permit for us. We provided our own canoe and camping equipment and camped in the canyon overnight, and were self-sustained (i.e. we didn't have a guide). We stayed at the Hacienda Hotel the night before our launch and loaded up on buffet food and beer afterward at the bar. Our shuttle guy Les met us in the parking lot early the next morning and we got everything loaded up on his trailer in short order. The whole process was logistically very smooth from beginning to end.
Overall, the Black Canyon trip was a highly memorable experience in a beautiful place. Camping overnight added to the serenity. The weather in February was very mild. The current was fast enough that we didn't have to do a lot of paddling; in many sections we could just kick back, float and enjoy the scenery, snap photos, fish, etc.
