Saw the anniversary narrows featured in a hiking magazine and decided to go there while visiting family in Vegas. Great choice. About 50 miles from Vegas. Easy to get there..head to lake mead national recreation area. Northshore road, mile marker 16, and you will find a parking lot. The main attraction are the narrows. To get to the start of the narrows you can either start hiking from the mile marker 16 lot or drive you car further up the road. If you have a sturdy 4*4, you can get very close to the narrows without breaking a sweat...but that kind of defeats the point of a hike. The walk to reach the narrows is about 2 miles along loosely graveled roads.scenic in its own right. you will know when you reach the narrows. Its Like you have been transported to a prehistoric time.will wind through a slot canyon as lovely as any you will find. Obey the precautions about not going when there is threat of rain. Walk thru the narrows is about a mile, and at end you can either continue on for a day of hiking or turn around. A great hike for the family. Oh yea, must pay a $10 fee to get into the national recreation site but you would lose that in 2 minutes in the man made slots of Vegas.
