Our stay at the Mandarin Oriental was amazing! We upgraded to a Strip View Suite, and the room surpassed our expectations. It had wraparound windows with views of New York, New York, Monte Carlo and MGM to the south, and Paris and Planet Hollywood to the north. The room had a good-sized living room with a full desk and a sectional couch and a large flatscreen TV. We had another couple over for drinks a few times, and there was plenty of room for everyone to sit down, which was really nice.
The bedroom and the bathroom were huge, with an enormous soaking tub and bath salts. The only odd thing about the set-up was that the door to the toilet area is transparent. I was staying with my husband, but even for a couple we would have liked more privacy in the toilet area! The closet was one of our favourite parts, with huge windows overlooking the south part of the Strip.
The service was great the entire time, especially at the pool. Our server was extremely fast and attentive, and as other reviewers mentioned, staff go around offering free samples of juices and smoothies throughout the day. They also give you free bottled water there, which is a nice touch. The chairs were padded, and the pool was never too crowded. They do have cabanas at the pool, but they don't really seem necessary since you're treated like such a VIP in the main area.
The spa was great, too. It's a bit pricey, but worth it. The facilities are really impressive, with a hot tub overlooking the northern part of the Strip. We found out that hotel guests get a discounted rate to use the spa facilities without a treatment - $50 instead of $80. I had a massage, and the therapist was obviously very skilled!
A huge perk at the MO is the valet closet. We loved being able to call for ice and not have to worry about getting dressed to answer the door to receive it! We called for ice quite a bit during our stay, and housekeeping always brought it within five minutes - very impressive! The turndown service was impressive, too - they didn't just turn down the bedspread, they did a full clean and replaced all of our towels, even though they had already done that earlier in the day! Also, when we first arrived we requested a humidifier in our room, and housekeeping brought it and set it up in less than 10 minutes!
I took advantage of the hotel's free yoga classes, which I highly recommend. The instructor was great, and the studio is beautiful! You don't even need to roll out your mat - the stations are set up when you arrive with a mat, bottled water, towels and blankets all set up for you.
The doorman, Kasey, was incredibly friendly, and gave us great tips about the fastest routes to take if we were walking in the area. There isn't a cab stand at the hotel, but Kasey was always able to get one for us quickly. We only saw a big line for cabs once during our stay, and I think that was on a Saturday night when there was a wedding there.
Before our stay, we were worried that the location would feel a bit isolated from all of the "action" on the Strip, but we didn't find that to be the case. It's a quick walk to the Monte Carlo and the Cosmopolitan, and it's really handy having the CVS and the Starbucks right next door. I often buy bottled water at a pharmacy to keep in the room when I'm in Vegas, but that actually wasn't necessary at the MO - they provided plenty of free bottles of water!
We like to try a different hotel each year, but it's going to be hard to NOT stay at the MO again next year! Can't wait to go back.
