This was a mixed bag, to be sure. The rooms are certainly large and nicely appointed. The view of the mountains from our room was spectacular. Though we didn't use the pool, it's lovely and huge. Did use the hot tub which could've been hotter but was warm and bubbly and after a long day walking on the strip was perfect. The grounds are beautiful and staff was invariably pleasant and helpful. So why wasn't I thrilled. Let's start in the bathroom. It's enormous with a jacuzzi tub and separate shower. But on getting into the shower, it appeared that there was black mildew growing where the "seat" built into the shower met the floor. Which was creepy. On closer inspection, there was simply no grout there at all, those were unfilled gaps I was seeing. Also kind of creepy. The lighting was another issue. While there were five lights in the bedroom/living area, with all of them turned on, it was still dim. But the bathroom was the worst. The lighting was behind a cove, and even with the lighted makeup mirror, it was difficult to see well enough to even put on makeup. The hairdryer was one of those small travel-type dryers with two settings - burning hot tornado or light breeze cool. It made it really difficult to use and I very much regretted not bringing my own dryer, though in general, we stay at Marriotts and they have much higher quality dryers. Another issue was transportation to the strip. I found either on the conference brochure or their web site (can't remember which) that there was a shuttle to the strip. I am SO glad I called because this shuttle, during the week, goes 3 times a day. So you can't come and go at your leisure and if you go in the morning, you are pretty much trapped there all day unless you're willing to spend $50 (I'm told) on a cab. This is definitely not a hotel I'd ever stay in without a rental car. The casino seems small and shabby. It didn't seem at all up to par with the strip hotels, and certainly not to the casino at the red rock resort which is only about 10-15 minute from the Marriott. We were there for a business meeting and so didn't have a choice on where to stay. I have to say though that I would never choose to stay at this hotel. Too many negatives and way too many other choices.
