“Don't Stay Here”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed July 25, 2013

The toilet backed up, When we walked to our room, as the shuttle wasn't anywhere around to bring us there, the walk was dirrty, the area is not groomed. There was trash, and debris in the hallway on the outside entry to our room. When I made my reservation, I carefully contacted the front desk. They told me it was a block off the strip. When we asked directions once we arrived to walk to the strip, they said it is too far, and to wait an hour for the shuttle. We waited an hour for the shuttle. I had called the concierge early to book seats to a show, and she gave me the price, and told me just do it when we come in. Once arrived, the show tickets were more than what she had said, and she wasn't working that day. The concierge who did help us, would not even check on the prices she quoted me, and just took our money as if it were going into her pocket. The good thing about this hotel, is it has fast internet. I would not stay there again. Oh, the spacious rooms they talk about, are very very small. no door to the bathroom. Poor lighting.

I am just going to list all the perks to this resort

-Every staff member we interacted with was friendly and helpful.
-Homer on night security was awesome.
- All pools were nice and accessible. Open 24 hours.
-On site bar was nice. The staff was accommodating and made tasty drink specials every day.
-They have a shop on site to buy groceries and snacks. Prices weren't terrible.
- A mall, Target, and Albertsons are a short cab ride away. (about 2 miles away)
- The resort is directly behind Harrahs. We walked back almost every night.
- Our room was beautiful. The AC worked great. Bed and pillows were very comfortable.
-Shuttle service was good. It ran from 10am to 12:45. It ran to several casino locations.
-Check out was simple and fast.
-They will hold you bags if you have extra time before you can check-in or before a flight leaves.
-Lobby has free use computers, with printing service. We saved a ton of time on flight check-in.
-Free WiFi

I can't comment on the time share presentation, we didn't do it.
Shuttle service could have been better. More stops and grocery runs would have been awesome.

Over all it was exactly what we needed and wanted.

Room Tip: Rooms on bottom level by the pool are noisy.

Myself, my husband and our 2 teenage daughters stayed at Desert Club Resort through a time share trade with RCI from July 6 through July 13th. It is rated with RCI as a Gold Crown resort, and deserves that high rating. We stayed in 2, one-bedroom villas that were lockouts, so we could open up the condos into one big condo. We checked in at 11 am, and our room was ready. We were escorted to building 5, and had 2 bottom level units. Building 5 has the best location on the property because it is right next to the main pool and Clubhouse. There are 5 pools on this property. Location was very conveniently located. This resort is mid-strip and only one block east of Las Vegas Blvd. You could walk to the strip but we opted to take advantage of their free shuttles. This place was run very well. First class service and everyone there were very helpful and go out of their way to accomodate any needs. The condo units themselves were very comfortable and recently renovated. Beautiful floors, comfy furniture, and granite counter tops. The shower/tub were enormous! We each had our own laundry room, kitchen, living room, bathroom and bedrooms. It was very roomy and I felt at home. The Gold Mine Bar and Grill had very good breakfast food. We didn't eat there for dinner much because we mainly ate somewhere on The Strip, so I can only say how great their breakfast was. Checkout took literally 5 seconds. I will definately return!!!!!

Room Tip: I feel that buildings 4, 5 and 6 were the best location if you want to be up front on the property...

Centrally located off the main "Strip", the Holiday Inn Club/Desert Club Resort offers comfortable accommodations within walking distance (i.e. urban hiking --- if you haven't experience Las Vegas blocks, be prepared for a hike!) to all the action or if "urban hiking" is not for you, the resort offers free shuttle service. The shuttle service breaks the "Strip" into three zones which allows you maximize your time and enjoyment of the attractions without suffering burn-out during your stay. The main reception area has been remodeled and offers a pleasent, as well as a trouble free checkin. The staff were courteous and friendly. The Resort is larger than it first appears, with several buildings arranged in clusters, each around a common pool/spa/fitness and or BBQ area. The main pool (complete with waterfall) is spacious. Plenty of space for tanning or resting by the pool. BBQ grills are ready for your culinary delights or if cooking is not on the agenda, there is a on-site restaurant (not to mention the multitude of eating establishments along the "Strip"). The buildings comprising the Resort are three-story and are NOT serviced by elevators, so be prepared for stairs if you're on the top floor. Our condo was a one bedroom/one bath with full kitchen unit. For the two of us, there was plenty of space and the kitchen was well equiped. The king size bed was very comfortable and inviting after cruise'n the Strip. The Resort is undergoing refurbishing/upgrading and our room reflected the welcome changes. However, there is ongoing construction (new roofs being applied and some buildings undergoing complete interior overall) but we found the disturbance minimal). If you're driving, there is plenty of parking (didn't have a problem finding a spot). There is a noticeable security presence at the resort (we attribute this to the Resorts proximity to the "Strip") but they are low-key and pleasant. The grounds are well maintained and clean. As for the time-share sales pitch(this is Vegas afterall !), yes we did receive the phone call with the usual offerings of gifts and other trinkets but a polite no thank-you was sufficient and we were not bothered for the rest of our stay. Overall, a good place off the "Strip" to call home-base while you take in the action of Vegas.

Pros: Friendly staff; large rooms; modern kitchens and baths; nice pools; good wi-fi
Cons: older furnishings (at least in our 2-br villa); weak A/C on especially hot days; spotty housekeeping service; aggressive sales tactics for time shares
I've stayed at Hilton Gran Vacations in Vegas and they are more updated and upscale. This property has nicer public grounds and nicer pools, more family friendly. If you get a good deal, it's worth a stay; if you get the same price or better at any Hilton Grand Vacations property, better to go with Hitlon.

My husband and I have recently returned from a week at this resort and I have to say it ranks right at the top of our exchange experiences over the last 18 years. Here are all the reasons why:
1) This resort has excellent security. Upon arrival we checked in with the security guard who had our names and gave us directions about where to park and check-in. Our first contact upon arrival was pleasant, welcoming, and efficient.
2) Check-in was quick and easy with only a short wait during which we were offered water which we gratefully accepted. This resort is 3 stories and units can be accessed only by climbing stairs. We wanted a unit on the top floor. Manuel checked us in and as he was assigning our unit I asked if it was on the top floor. It was not so I asked if we could have a top floor unit. He immediately changed our unit assignment. We exchanged into a 2 bedroom, 2 bath condo and the unit Manuel gave us (Building 7, 305) was outstanding! We had a pool/courtyard view that was a complete delight.
3) We drove in from the Denver area so we had our vehicle which was necessary only twice when we grocery shopped and gassed up before leaving. There is plenty of covered parking.
4) The resort is close to The Strip and it is close to East Flamingo where we found grocery stores (Vons), liquor stores (Lee's), drug stores (CVS), a Target, and gas stations.
5) There is a small grocery onsite at the resort which we patronized twice. We got very fresh mixed green salads and a fresh fruit tray with melons and grapes. We also popped over for a jar of salsa. There is a restaurant onsite which we did not patronize.
6) The kitchen in our unit was wonderfully equipped. Because of being timeshare owners we are able to travel "First Class Frugal", and we are very health conscious so we prefer to prepare our own meals.
7) There was a full sized washer and dryer in a separate laundry room. Having a washer/dryer in our unit is a must for us.
8) The master bedroom had a king size bed which was even more comfortable than our own at home. We slept wonderfully. The bedding used was noticeably excellent and I wrote down what it is so I can buy some (Sobel Westex). We brought our own pillows so I can't comment on the pillows.
9) If you are into "urban hiking" you can walk to The Strip and back and we did one time. After that we decided to take advantage of the free shuttles because we found we could get plenty of exercise just walking The Strip. It was hot and by the time we were ready to come back to the resort we completely appreciated an air conditioned ride. We had intended to use the fitness center but we didn't need to. We thought it was nicely equipped with treadmills, an elliptical, a stationary bike, weights, etc.. We did use the pool and it was very refreshing with lots of sun beds and a couple of tables with umbrellas and chairs. You will have to take some form of transportation to The Fremont Street Experience and back because it is not near The Strip. We rode the resort's shuttle. Our driver was Patrick and as we passed Vegas landmarks he pointed things out and gave us history and perspective that was so interesting. We enjoyed him a lot.
Regarding the timeshare sales: after check-in guests are guided to the "Vacation Station" and asked to attend a presentation in exchange for discount show tickets and/or other gifts. We own two weeks in Colorado already and so we declined. There was no pressure and we were never asked about it again. But, oh my! How totally thrilled we were to be able to trade into this great resort! The timeshare experience has been wonderful for us and we loved every moment of this one! We had so much fun in Vegas and we so enjoyed coming back to our condo which was cool, comfy, and had everything we could possibly need.
As for offsite entertainment we visited as many casinos as we could just to see them and see their shops. We ate dinner out one time at Gilley's at Treasure Island before we went to line dancing and karaoke in Gilley's bar which has a mechanical bull and large dance floor. Gilley's has good, reasonably priced food, good portions, good drink specials, and friendly, fun people but don't be in a hurry if you go there. We topped off our Vegas experience with lunch at the Flamingo Buffet. They have a wide variety of food choices and we thought it was pretty good. At a buffet it is better to go when you have to wait in line to get in. When it's busy the food turns over more quickly and you get fresher stuff. We were seated by the windows looking out on the flamingo habitat and that was just plain awesome.
Once again, thanks to Patrick for being such a great driver, and thanks to Manuel for an easy, efficient check-in and for assigning us such a delightful condo. We had a truly outstanding Las Vegas Resort experience!

Room Tip: Ask for a top floor unit and the odd number units seem to have the pool/courtyard views

This is our second trip to Vegas, and we loved the resort. It is close to the strip, and the resort offers free shuttles. But, it is very quiet and peaceful. We loved the 2 bedroom and 2 bath condo. It came with everything we needed, including a full kitchen and washer/dryer. The resort staff was always very friendly and answered all of our questions.
We only have one complaint about this resort. We went to the timeshare sales pitch and promised it would last 2 hours. Well, ours lasted over 3 hours and was very uncomfortable. The first gentleman that spoke to us was very nice and pleasant, but when they sent in the second person, things began to change. This person was very rude and arrogant. He made us feel very incompetent and also like we were not doing the best for our family. The attitude was how dare you not do this for your family. When explained it was a budget issue, the intensity became more intense. I am not going to buy a resort condo for the same price as my monthly house mortgage payment. This person then became very condescending and belittling. We were made to feel awful, and after this gentleman, came a third guy. After more than 3 hours, the presentation finally ended and we received our gifts. But, the lasting thoughts of this place with me will be with this timeshare presenter. I can not believe that a resort of this quality would have someone on their staff act that way towards customers. It is an automatic turnoff, and it left a sickening feeling with me for the rest of the week. We did attend another timeshare presentation at another location, and this one was much more pleasant - the way it should be.

Room Tip: Do not attend the timeshare presentations
