Rarely do I write a bad review because people have a bad day sometimes and word of mouth is the best marketing tool in the service industry and can make or break a business...
HOWEVER, there is NEVER an excuse for a dirty hotel/motel room when checking in. My wife and I spent 7 nights in Las Vegas last week and were catching the red eye back home the next night. After we checked out of our resort we checked into the closest Motel 6 on Tropicana Blvd. so we did not have to lug our bags around the Vegas strip for 12 hours on Saturday. We were just going to be at the Motel 6 from 11 am to 11pm that day...
Upon checking in, I thought all was to be good because the staff was very nice and checked us in early. Walking to the room we thought the property looked pretty run down compared to the buildings closer to the office. The first thing we noticed when we walked into the room was the smell. The room smelled like a mixture of cat urine and whatever cleaner housekeeping had tried to cover the smell up with. We thought, well we will just leave our bags and go grab a bite to eat and walk around Vegas for the day and maybe it wouldn't be so bad. We were wrong. DEAD wrong...
After lunch, we returned to the room and really noticed all of the horrible things that should never be when you check into any motel. First let me tell you that this locations website has misleading photos of the property as all of the rooms do NOT look like the ones they show online. (Notice photos attached to this review.) Let me just list the things that were bad in room 1027.
1) Air Conditioner: Broken, not cold and mold was all over it. Disgusting and shameful.
2) Toilet was not clean.
3) Black mold in the shower.
4) Shower head was rusted.
5) Bed was uncomfortable. (Mattress appeared to be 15+ years old.)
6) Pillows were old and stiff.
7) Comforter smelled weird, looked 20+years old and for kids.
8) Room smelled of cat urine and cleaner.
9) Wife saw a giant cockroach outside the door under AC unit.
10) Half of the tv channels did not work and tv was ancient.
We actually changed and checked out the pool as well, what a mistake. This property has 2 swimming pools. The nicer one behind the office was crowded so we opted for the smaller, second pool near our room. There was trash on the ground and in the water, enough said about that.
Now in Motel 6's defense, I have stayed at many locations over the years and they were all just fine. This location was just horrible and they are just one block off of the Vegas Strip! This property also had some very, let's just say "seedy" customers and once it got dark (I can't believe we stayed that long) we headed to check out early to sleep on the much safer Las Vegas airport floor.
The only saving grace is that as soon as I told the manager about the horrible conditions, he gave us our money back. I just pray that the owner is told about this experience so that in the future, accommodations are renovated and fixed so that customers do not receive such an awful room for their hard earned money.
Here's a tip: try another Motel, this one sucks and we felt was dangerous.
