First of all, I will say that we paid £24 for each week day night. £24. Bargain.
In that £24 context I would say that the hotel was excellent value. Technically on the Strip, but in reality you'll need to get a bus to the main bit of the Strip. The SDX is fast and doesn't stop much and the Deuce stops everywhere so takes longer. For $7 you can get a one-day unlimited ticket for both. You wouldn't want to walk. We saw some dodgey characters around, including one guy who approached some tourists telling them that they shouldn't be walking in the area unless he stayed with them...
The hotel is like the others in Vegas where you have to get through a huge casino before you reach the reception. The room was clean and spacious. Wifi was available for $13 and there was no wired option.
There was a decent buffet available for $15 and another diner/burger place in the building if you didn't want to eat on the Strip.
Hotel guests get free access to the Tower, which has a great view of the Strip. And there's a nice bar and a couple of rides at the top. You can even bungee jump off the Tower if you're brave enough (and have $110 spare)...
I'd see how much hotels are on the Strip and compare prices before deciding on whether to stay here. This hotel is great If you want to save money and don't mind getting the bus.
This was one stop on my husband and my roadtrip across the west coast. The stratosphere's atmosphere was a ton of fun, very low key for Vegas, which is just what we wanted. The casino was a nice size, and the rides at the top of the tower were super fun. neither of us are big drinkers, so this place was perfect for us, as there was a ton more to do, then booze it up. The rooms were clean and a decent size. we had booked our hotel room on expedia, and were told we would get a strip view room, but we had a view of the back parking lot. that was not the hotel's fault - however - we did want to change it, and they were sold out. but the staff was super friendly, and the rooms were very low cost which worked well for our budget! definitely will be back!! we also took advantage of 'the deuce' bus transit to get us to the other hotels and casinos, which was really cheap - and made it well worth being able to stay on the total other side of the strip, and not feel like we had to break our pocket to head to the middle of the strip whenever we wanted!
I have been to Las Vegas about 2 x per year for the last 15 years and have almost always used Priceline.com to get a minimum 3-4 * hotel for 50.00 or under. While messing around I oops-ed and included the area with the Stratosphere and bingo had the room for 11 (two long trade shows back to back) at 35.00 per night. I have stayed here a number of times, maybe twice before, and all I recalled was it is near little but Denny's. But ...I now owned 11 nights at the Strat.
Arriving, I tried the 20.00 tip trick I have been hearing about. Hand the reception a 20.00 and ask for a good room or whatever you seek. I ended up with a high room near an elevator.
Get in room at 4:00 am my time after flying all night: ac is not working and it's about 85 in the room. 2.5 hours later the guy gets it going.
Next day back from show at 11:00 PM: ac is not working. 2 hours later guy determines it will not work and it's a miracle the thing did not catch fire. Move me to a new room. AC thumps like a mad man. Move me to a new room. AC barely functions at cooling room but it is not noisy. Go to Bed at 4:00 AM.
To make up for all the failed ac they comp me a buffet pass (15.00)
The rooms (3) I was in are really nice, clean, renovated but when they opened the AC closet you could see: this is old stuff, ancient ac, the hotel has been rode hard and put away wet. And dressed up. The maint guys kept me entertained with horror stories about pipes and systems stuff. I think it is ready for blowing it up. Except they just renovated. Do not hold your breath.
The next night some girl and guy were (mostly she) screaming at each other at 4:00 AM until security came. The guy did an original act: I paid for this room so do not be bothering me! But they quieted down.
I was there on business. I use the valet parking which I cannot commend enough: fast and friendly. I never gambled. I had one meal (free) at the buffet and it was fine. The room though never cool enough was nice, new, kept clean and tidy. Amazing what a 4-5 $ tip each day does in that department.
Do I like the Strat? Not much. Though I will say the staff , everyone except the person I had to discuss the compensation with, was relentlessly positive and cheerful and helpful: security-janitors, floor... you could not ask more of your staff.
Mainly it's me: next time I go I'm just getting a room off the strip where I can drive in and out easy and skip the whole casino thing. I will miss asking people where you from? Croatia, China, Dallas, London, Ecuador, etc. etc.
If you have never stayed here: the best selling point is that it is not terribly bad and truly cheap. It is a long walk from everything. That's why I always have a car and use free valet parking door to door. And wait: the internet is 12.00 per day! OUCH! and Was there a freaking "resort" fee? Well I wish I could say all around great stuff but it's a hotel built around a massive tower thing and without it? Not much.
I've been here twice, the first time in October 2009 for four nights. After reading some bad reviews I was worried about my room and was really surprised when I got clean room (after I worked for a year as a cleaner in a 4 star motel I knew where to look to make sure if the room is clean or not) and a bed to die for. The mattress felt new, the floor was clean and the bathroom spotless. The only thing I didn't like much was that the room service came into your room even when you used the "Don't disturb" sign.
I stayed here again in November 2011 for two nights and found the rooms were renovated and still clean. I had a lovely view over the Strip and saw the people who jumped off the tower from my window (which is kind of weird when you see the first time somebody "falling" down)
With your room card you have free admission of the tower and can enjoy a great view from story 108 (and your ears will pop when the elevator gets you up there in no time!)
The casino is located on the north end of the Strip, so it's the perfect place to get down the Strip or to Downtown. The Deuce stops in front of the casino.
Oh, the breakfast buffet is delicious and they add new dishes so when you come there later in the morning, there are plenty of lunch opportunities too!
Was really impressed with hotel, saw some negative comments and was unsure.but when we arrived loved loved our room had its sitting area and bedroom separate. Just enough room to have a few friends end enjoyed the old end of strip a bus ride either way, great food would go back:)
Last minute event and needed a room near downtown Las Vegas - furtherest from the strip. The Stratosphere was the last resort. Check-in at 9:30pm took 20 mins. Long lines and only 3 reservation agents at the front desk. Room was clean however the air condition was not working properly. Noisy refrigerator and luke warm shower. Nice flat screen TV's with 1970 furniture. One wall deco in a split room. No frills, no thrills. OK to stay if only for 1 night and you have no plans other than to sleep, shower, change and leave.
