This was our 2nd time staying at the Luxor, the 1st being about 10 years ago. The only thing I really remembered from our 1st visit was that the rooms were dark and I had a hard time putting on my makeup. Silly, I know, but I like lots of light. I was happy with the ambiance of the check-in area and everything seemed clean and well taken care of. Then....we entered the elevator. It was shocking how dirty and dingy and old they were. We rode in several throughout our stay of 5 days and each one looked horrible. Our room was a good size (with a large bathroom with no tub), and we had a great view of the strip from the 15th floor of the pyramid. Everything was clean and in good repair except for the electrical outlets, which were all very, very loose and everything we plugged in kept dropping out onto the floor. It was really weird. Ok, so all was fine the 1st day. The 2nd day we left the room about 10 a.m. and returned at 4 p.m. and no one had been to the room to clean yet. We had to call and ask for a maid to come by to make the bed and give us clean dry towels. Then, the 3rd day we left the room at around 10 a.m. and didn't return until about 3 a.m. and NO ONE HAD BEEN BY TO CLEAN THE ROOM! We were exhausted and walked in to a bathroom full of dirty wet towels still laying on the bathroom floor. We called the desk to ask about this and they were very nonchalant about it, almost like it was a common complaint that they get. They sent someone up about 20 minutes later with some clean towels.
I've never, ever stayed in a hotel before where they totally forgot to clean the room. And, I don't know if I'll ever stay at the Luxor again, especially with the myriad other choices available on the strip.
Just a side note: The casino's slot machines were extremely tight. I didn't see anyone winning anything.
We had room 15149, which had a great view of the strip.
