I have always want to go to the boneyard and it did not disappoint! The tour guide was really informative and gave a lot of the history of the signs, the science behind neon sign making, and notable sign makers. We had plenty of opportunities to take pictures of everything. We went in October, so the weather was great, but I could imagine not enjoying it as much when it's 100 + degrees. I was also surprised by the range in signs - from the earliest to some later examples.
Also, make sure you make reservations early as there was no room for walk-ups on our tour, which was on a Tuesday.

We made arrangements months in advance to take this tour during the last week of September. Never did we imagine that the temperature would be 102 degrees that late in September, and since we were on a noon tour, we were very hot. We had brought bottles of water, and they do sell water in the tour office, but be forewarned that you should be prepared to have water on hand if the temps are over 85 degrees. An umbrella would not have been a bad idea that day, as there is very little shade on the Boneyard lots. The tour takes about 90 minutes, and is worthwhile, especially if you are into photography, Las Vegas history, or architecture. There are two lots full of old signs. Also, wear comfortable, closed toe shoes, as there is a glass lying about from the broken signs. We took the Deuce bus from the Strip to the Downtown Bus Terminal, and from there we took another bus to a stop across from where the tour office is. It was only about one or two stops away. We thought about walking there from the Bus Terminal, but the woman at the Terminal said she did not like to recommend to anyone to walk there as the area is a little dicey.

Definitely a steamy experience, but worthwhile. Interesting to see the history of Vegas in the boneyard. Non of the signs in the boneyard are working or restored, but hopefully they will be at some point. Support this organization. They will put your money to good use. Make sure to see the working signs along Freemont Street. They are amazing! Read the placks to differentiate between the originals and the reproductions. YOU MUST CONTACT THEM IN ADVANCE AND REQUEST A TOUR. PRICE IS $15 PER PERSON. E-mail them before your trip and tell them which dates you're interested in. They'll respond and tell you when to come.

The neon sign tour is very interesting & I really was really looking forward to it because I am a big Vegas fan......HOWEVER.....it was way too hot to enjoy the tour. The summertime tours are at 10:30 am because the heat is so bad.

I do recommend the tour in the fall but not summertime.

Neon Museum – This is something I thought was pretty cool. You didn’t see a museum like this in most cities. You have to reserve a spot on their tours before you arrive in Vegas. The neon Museum is a non-for-profit organization that stores and restores old neon Vegas signs from destruction. They rent property from the city for $1 a year and store the signs in a make shift parking lot. The signs and the work done on them are all donated. One letter of a Neon sign can cost over $20,000 A volunteer guide (ours was Mitch) walks you through the two parking lots and explains the history behind the signs. It is all outside and gets VERY hot. Remember sunscreen as it’s not shaded and bring some water or change for the vending machine in the Whipple Center. The tour was just under 2 hours with many pictures captured. It was very informative and I’m glad I saw it before it gets really popular. Right now it’s still a hidden gem. Something I wasn't sure about was tipping the guide? We decided we would rather be told that they couldn't accept it rather than not try. We tipped $5 a person and they can take tips. They split them and were grateful. With tip the tour cost $20pp. We took the Deuce to the downtown bus terminal and transferred to the 113? It was only about 3 stops though so we walked on the return. It’s right on Las Vegas blvd. We stopped at a 711 and bought a slushy and walked to Freemont Street. It took about 15 minutes. This tour is good for people who like a little history, some nostalgia and/or people in to photography.
