My (now) husband and I got married last week in the drive-thru at the Little White Chapel of Love in Las Vegas. We have been together for 15 years and were looking for something simple, quick and different. We definitely achieved that!
We have been to Vegas many times and knew what to expect from the chapel, so we were not disappointed with the chapel itself and it fit our needs, but for others, here is my assessment of the pros and cons.
Pros:
- It’s cheap. We did the drive-thru wedding and it cost $40 plus tips for the minister and photographer – we did $40 each for them, so the total cost was less than a nice dinner somewhere, even with the car rental!
- It’s quick. Our ceremony took about 5 minutes plus maybe another 10 to have some pictures taken – then we were off on our “honeymoon!”
- The lady who helped us initially (Barbi), Pastor Max and the photographer (whose name escapes me – younger guy) were all very sweet and gave us great service. I saw some other reviews where it said the pastor/photographer were pushy about their tips. I didn’t see that – they simply let us know when we were done that they worked for tips and if we’d like to contribute, they had an envelope for us. I thought it was as discrete as that type of solicitation can be.
- The ceremony was actually quite nice. Pastor Max made it feel like a more traditional wedding than what it really was.
- Our pictures turned out nice. I saw some reviews that the photographer was bad. Maybe they have more than one photographer, but we got a lot of nice shots.
Cons:
- We had called a week before to see if we needed a reservation for the drive-thru and if there was always a photographer available. We were told that no reservation was needed and a photographer would be available. When we got there in the morning (about 9:15, which I know is early for Vegas, but that’s why we called), there was no pastor or photographer. We sat in the car for nearly an hour while they called them and got them in. And since it was more than 80 degrees out at that point of the day, we were melted by the time the ceremony actually started.
- The neighborhood is not the nicest. We knew this, so it didn’t bother us, but you will be right next to a Howard Johnsons and across from some type of adult store (that’s what the drive-thru looks out at).
- The chapel/drive-thru itself is pretty worn down. We expected tacky and old, so we were ok with it, but it is Astroturf, fake flowers, peeling paint, etc. We did go into one of the chapels (I think they have 2 or 3) for pictures after the ceremony, but I didn’t pay much attention inside.
- The drive-thru is loud. You are only a few feet from Las Vegas Blvd. and the passing traffic makes it difficult to hear the pastor.
- The customer service by everyone else (except the 3 people listed in the “pros” section) was awful. We got done with taking pictures and they told us we could stop back after 3 p.m. to pick up the pictures. We had our rental car until 6 p.m. so we came back about 5:30-ish and they could not find our pictures. The 2 ladies working then were extremely rude and didn’t care that I was in tears (I had read several reviews where people never got their pictures). Their snotty attitude completely ruined our day. They wanted us to fill out a form saying they’d ship them when they found them. We refused because with their attitude, we figured they’d just never do it.
They thought maybe the pictures were locked in a room that neither of them had the key to, but they didn’t have the phone numbers of anyone who could open the room. We ended up sitting there well past our car rental return time with no answer. They said there was no way they’d have an answer that night and that we’d have to wait until the morning. We asked if they’d deliver the disk to Planet Hollywood where we were staying since we wouldn’t have a car the next day (they have cars and it is only a couple of miles away). They absolutely refused and said they wouldn’t offer us a discount or compensation for taking a cab either - basically, they said it was our problem and we could either find our way back or they’d ship them to us eventually. Since we needed them for a party when we got back and we didn’t trust them to follow through, we said we’d come back the next day. We asked them to call our cell phones immediately in the morning when the manager came in.
Naturally, the next day, we get no call from them and we had to follow up. They had found the pictures. So we had to spend extra money and time to get back down there to pick them up. When we got in there, the lady at the counter was very rude about the whole situation. Never once did anyone apologize for the inconvenience and stress or offer a helpful solution to us.
Overall:
Had it not been for the rudeness of the staff over the picture situation, I would have had no complaints – we knew what we were getting and the rest of the stuff didn’t really bother us. For others who are looking for a more “upscale” experience, you might want to check elsewhere.
