Because I love the panoramic view from the top floor and because the buffet had excellent food and a lot of variety, Harrah's Forest Buffet used to be one of the main attractions for me whenever I went to South Lake Tahoe.
No more. The last two years that I went there, I walked through the serving area to see the food before I laid out $25. The selection was less than exciting and most of the food looked like it had been in the warming trays for hours. With so few people in the dining room, there was no need to continuously replenish the food so it appeared old, overcooked, dried up and not at all appetizing.
After checking out two other buffets with similar results, we headed to the supermarket and, for less than half of what the buffet would've cost, we cooked our own sumptuous feast.
Conclusion: The prices keep going up but the quality and variety of food is going down.
