I must first say that we are locals (live in LV). I surprised my wife with an overnight stay at the Ravella (formerly Ritz). It was the first night they re-opened. The staff was great! The hotel was clean and elegant. As you enter, the smell of fresh flowers showcased the luxury. The room was a 1 bedroom suite that overlooked the lake. Great view! The hotel grounds are kept up very well. Everything from the grass, to the plants to gardens and walkways were very clean.
I should say that if you are looking for a traditional Vegas hotel/casino, this is not the place. It is very quiet and peaceful. Perfect get sway from a fast paced life. We ate at "The Village" (Luna Rosa-Italian). It was a bit pricey, but then again it is expected from Lake Las Vegas. My wife and I walked around the village (a collection of about 5 restaurants and some specialty shops/ candy shop, etc) and lake in the morning and it was incredibly peaceful and relaxing. The hotel does have a few restaurants but we chose to eat out. Being that it was cold, we did not use the pool, but it looked great. There was an outdoor ice skating rink within walking distance which was nice. In addition, you can rent small boats/canoes/paddle boats to use on the lake). As you exit the hotel, you are right in the middle of the village (shops, restaurants, etc.)
On the down side, Lake Las Vegas is hurting due to the recession. Although beautiful, the village was near empty. Everyone working in the village was exceptionally nice and polite (both the customers and those working) The restaurants do well due to the limited choices within LLV. This did not bother us as we only stayed 1 night and wanted our own quiet vacation. We didn't care to meet people. LLV is a good 30 minute drive to the strip, but if you are looking for a peaceful/quiet/relaxing short trip (3-5 days), this is the place.
