“Close to Vegas, Closer to Nature”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 7, 2013

The set of nine ponds here attract a great abundance of waterfowl, waders, and songbirds. The volunteer staff are knowledgeable and friendly. No fee to enter, but limited hours of operation. Opens at dawn but closes at 2pm. Not a drawback since the morning hours make for the best birding. Be sure to prepare for weather as appropriate. Water, wide brim hats, sunscreen, etc. for the warmer days, jackets for the cool mornings. Lots of benches throughout the Preserve but restrooms only at the entrance building. Added many Life List birds our last trip.

“An amazing place.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 7, 2013

My brother is a Master Birder from Olympia, Washington and on his last visit to Las Vegas he wanted to visit the Henderson Bird Viewing Preserve. Although not a "birder" myself, I found the facility to be extremely well run and informative. We spend a number of hours walking around the ponds, viewing and photographing the various species. The walk areas are wide and for the most part ADA accessible with numerous benches placed at strategic locations along the pathways. There are large, well constructed viewing platforms that offer great perspectives, including one built out over one of the ponds where we were able to clearly view nesting Avocets.
This is a wonderful place for bird watching, but also a relaxing, fun experience for those of us with limited birding experience.

“Cool Temp Hike Area”

Very nice visitor center - should be open by now. Very wide paved paths. Just past Sam Boyd Stadium...if this is the same one. Very new with alot of foliage.

“Good birding”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 25, 2013 via mobile

Free, good selection of birds and waterfowl. It's only open in the mornings. It's a flat walk around water reclamation ponds not the most scenic but of you want to see birds this is a good place.

“A must-see for all birders passing Vegas”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 9, 2013

It looks that true bird- or just nature-lovers sometimes get involved in something like business conference in Vegas or Vegas family/friends experience to " have fun". If so try to secure about 3-4 hours, take your binoculars to see a nice place, full of birds, nice guidance and a amall bird-orientated shop. A few ponds with variety of waterfowl plus a set of desert species. Pls see the details on the brilliant http://www.birdandhike.com/Bird and the reception offers current birdlist, a guide for the best sights and a chat about birds and nature. Your family or partners will be grateful if you take them - even without birds it is a pleasant walk on the verge of the real desert. Note: check opening hours - they start very early but close around 2 pm, or earlier. Make sure you have a bottle of water - slow pace tour with observation times takes roughly 2 hours, but I found several flying reasons to spend 3,5 h there.
