I was pleasantly surprised at how nice this Comfort Suites was. The front desk folks were more than helpful; the room was immaculate and comfortable. The WiFi was blazing fast. BUT -- if you're a light sleeper, as I am, you will be bothered by the numerous trains that come by.
The rumble/vibration of a passing train is loud enough to be felt/heard while in the shower. I had a hard time trying to fall asleep. Between 8:30 PM and midnight there were 5 or 6 trains that came through. I finally took a sleeping pill, turned the aircon on high/continuous, and put in earplugs. The trains were running again by my wake up of 6:00 AM.
The front desk will try and put you in a room more away from the tracks, but here's the thing: the hotel is perpendicular to the tracks. There is no good room - all the rooms are on the track side. The laws of physics WILL be obeyed: all rooms hear the trains.
One more thought: with all the desert property in Fernley, who thought it would be a good idea to not only buy land right by the train tracks, but also to orient the rooms east/west? You get either the morning sun or the afternoon killer sun. Pick yer poison....
If you're a heavy sleeper, then stay here. It's an excellent hotel. If you're a light sleeper, then drive on because you will be kept awake.
My reason for staying in a hotel isn't to admire the furnishings, it's to sleep. Because of that I averaged out the rating to a 3-star. If the room/staff hadn't been so great, it would have been a 1-star.
