Eureka was once the second largest city in Nevada, but that was more than 100 years ago. The town has some interesting buildings from the late 19th century, but other than that, it was just a place to stop on the journey east or west through Nevada. This hotel is long in the tooth, but the bed was comfortable, the bathroom area was spacious, and the air conditioning was powerful. (The AC also turned off and on all night, which would bother light sleepers.) The people at the front desk were pleasant. On the negative side, the bedspread looked like it hadn't been washed in years, and the carpet didn't invite you to step on it unless you were wearing slippers. Our room was $52, half of what they charge at the Best Western down the street (the only up-to-date hotel in town).
