Eureka won the distinction of being night #1 on a weeklong Nevada Roadtrip with my boyfriend. Assigned with hotel reconnaissance, I daydreamed of surprising him with romantic stay at a grand ol' dame like The Jackson House and living happily ever after.
You, Wise Traveller, probably already know the score: there are only two operating motels in town as of writing, and neither are on historic registries. This one happens to be $40-50 cheaper than the other one, and looking to keep the creditors from repossesing our memories of the trip, I booked it. I figured if it was a super dive, that $40 could go a long way in buying beer and giddy delirium.
Lo and behold, the towels are thick, the sheets soft, the whole joint was squeaky clean, and the staff was friendly! It was the closest place to all the action too. It's directly across the street from hearty fare at the Owl Club and catty cornered from the elegant Opera House and colorful Raine's Market. They even reserved the room weeks in advance without requiring a form of payment until we showed up. There's something awfully refreshing about the honor system and Eureka, Nevada! Try to make it for a show at the Opera House if you can.
