Hi - HatMan Geno here, this time with an most unexpected and wonderful find: the Elko, NV, TRAVELODGE. Using my "does it provide what you would expect" scale, this is an EXCELLENT overnight, affordable travel stay, rating my "5-HATs" rating.
About 1 mile from I-80 in Elko, NV, friendly management, simple landscaping, surprisingly functional rooms, and a continental breakfast among the best in its class make this an amazing value for about $55 per night. All access to the building and rooms - other than the main office entrance - are via your room key card for added security.
The ROOM -
Our room was on the ground floor (we were in #119). It had 2 Full Beds, clean sheets, pillows, and rug. The A/C worked properly and all lights functioned as they should.
The BATHROOM -
This was clean and functional. Towels were the typical "smaller" size, but the soap and small shampoo bottle were a surprise: designer San Francisco brand products, the same I have seen in motels and hotels 2 and 3 times this price. Sink, toilet and bath tub / shower were all in very good condition. Surprisingly, there was a wall unit hair dryer as well, an amenity that seems to be rare these days in a budget lodging experience.
ROOM AMENITIES -
This had a typical TV (fully functional with remote), half-sized refrigerator (freezer worked very well), mirror, and microwave. The "sound-proofing" was just fine so we did not hear other guests through the walls. The free WiFi worked very well for both of our devices with very good speed and performance. It was a very comfortable sleep.
CONTINENTAL BREAKFAST -
Here's where this TRAVELODGE really excelled. Included in the price was access to a cute and quaint lobby with electric fireplace. Free copies of USA Today Newspapers and a bowl of Orville Redenbacher's Popcorn were available if desired. In the actual breakfast room were 2 types of cereal, muffins, bagels, bread, waffles, instant oatmeal, choices of juices, yogurt, various fruits, coffee, and more. The flat panel TV in the corner was clear and easily viewed while eating at one of the 3 tables. This was a surprising array and selection for such an economy lodging.
Though simple but adequate from the outside, this economy class property was one of the best values for the buck that I ever experienced...ever! Sound, clean and safe...and for $55, taxes included, this should be on your overnight road trip value itinerary.
So...enjoy your travels...be safe...and I'll see you from the road!
- HatMan Geno.
