“Non smoking rooms reek of smoke!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed December 9, 2012

Why even have a non-smoking room? The non -smoking rooms reek of smoke! Furnishings are well worn, pillows are flat and thin. The door to the room had an inch gap at the bottom and smoke was drifting in. We ended up blocking it with the bathroom towels, which helped somewhat. The room had a flat screen TV, microwave, refrigerator and an extra counter and sink which was nice, but the room needed cleaning and the bed sheets were not tucked in.Not Best Western anymore, and we could see why. They need to have doors that seperate the hotel from the casino, which might help cut down some smoke.
The casino is more smoky than most in Carson City.
On a positive note, the food is very good and priced right, and the banquet room food is very good also.

Room Tip: Get a room as far away from the casino as possible!

It is very close to the freeway exit and has bowling. The room was dated and worn. The white toilet seat had deep black scratches so was beyond proper cleaning. The whole place reeked of smoke as the ventilation in the casino is poor.
Don't bother joining their 'club' unless you live there and plan to gamble a lot.
Upside is the room was cheap, the breakfast was good and the bowling was great fun.

Room Tip: Ask for second floor as far away from front desk/casino entrance as possible.

We have no need to stay here because we live close but try to go to the restaurant once a week. I either get the prime rib or shrimp platter for $7.77. In the many times I've eaten here, I've never been disappointed and for the price, you can't go wrong. The only complaint would be getting through the cigarette smoke in the casino and by the bar in the no smoking bowling alley. There is always adaquate parking and easy access to the freeway.

We stayed here with our grandson's for a soccer tournament. It was ok. We were on the non smoking floor and it smelled like smoke. Our room was a junior suite and the size was good. The boys did enjoy bowling.

We stayed here two nites in October and wasnt disappointed. The rate was 49.00 a nite and a free breakfast. Filled us both up. They mention the casino was smoky, but it didnt seem to bother me at all, lots of smokers but perhaps they got a better venilation system working now. Bowled a couple games also and that was cheap. The staff was very nice and friendly and the gambling was fun. Of course we didnt win anything, but we never do..:(. We will defintely stay here again!!!!
Be sure to visit some of the historical sites around there. Cowboy days were quite interesting to say the least..:)

Because Carson City is the closest big town to our home, we often travel there for one reason or another. And because we prefer to take our two small dogs along we usually stay in a pet friendly hotel. We do, however, frequent the Gold Dust West for the best steak and eggs breakfast in town. Recently we came through Carson City without the pets and decided to try the hotel out. We were given a room on the third floor of the hotel's southeast wing and found it clean, spacious, and well-appointed. And evidently the management is heeding Trip Advisor reviews concerning smoke. According to the manager the number of smoking rooms has been dropped from 25 to 10 percent, and carpets (the main culprit in smoke odor per the manager) are being replaced on a major scale. Lobby staff was cordial and responsive. Whenever we visit Carson City without our pets you can be sure we will check into the Gold Dust West.

The rate was a great value. Both check-in and check-out were quick with friendly, helpful staff. Enjoyed the small casino area, although it was a bit smoky in the evening, which had a variety of slot machines. We signed up for the free Gold card that offered some free slot play and other benefits like a tasty prime rib dinner in exchange for points earned during slot play. Fun! The entire facility was clean, well maintained, and nicely organized. We will definitely visit again.
