“If you like B&B you'll love this”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 26, 2013

I can't add anything to what has already been said about the accommodation and lovely breakfast. Having the lounge on the same level as the bedrooms is inspired as it prevents that imposing feeling I get in someone else house. Lovely balcony too. I found the blind in the bedroom not enough to block the early morning light but that is not enough to mark the barn down!

Room Tip: Front of the house to avoid noise from lounge, if full.

Based on the tone of some TripAdvisor reviewer comments, my wife and I were a little uncertain about the suitability of some of the motel accommodations in the Scottsbluff area when we were passing through in mid-September 2012, so we opted for a somewhat out-of-the-way but highly rated B&B with an unusual name, the Barn Anew. What a lucky decision on our part! The Barn Anew is a fabulous place – believe the reviews! – the Maybees are outstanding hosts, the rooms are wonderfully appointed (the Barn is, too!), the beds are solid comfort, and the breakfast is the perfect start to the day. We stayed three nights at the Barn Anew – we extended one night largely because we loved the place so much! – and we absolutely would stay there again as soon as the opportunity rolls around. You do not want to pass this one up if you need a place to stay in the Scottsbluff area!

Room Tip: Every room in the Barn is excellent.

My wife and I stayed for one night only and were very impressed. Alan and Char were very friendly and were happy to give us a full tour of the property which is full of historical artefacts from the region. The room was very comfortable. Breakfast was very nice and the fact that my wife is vegetarian was not a problem.

Alan and Char Maybee run this beautiful B&B in Mitchell, NE, just west of the Scottsbluff National Monument. The building is a converted 1900 horse barn (of which they have lots of photos from when it was a working farm) now filled with their travel and adventure souvenirs and fabulour native american artifacts. The four bedrooms are spacious, well furnished, clean and comfortable with queen-sized beds. Guests have the run of the house including the 2nd floor Rendezvous Room with a balcony that looks out at the bluffs of the monument.

The property is still surrounded by farm fields filled with corn, soy and beet.

Our plans changed and we ended up only being able to stay one night, but we would return in a heartbeat. This is a perfect example of what a good B&B should be - unique setting and style, generous hosts and a great breakfast!

Room Tip: We stayed on the Oregon Trail room. It was very comfortable

Thank you so much for your kind words. We really loved having you, and hope you'll come to see us again soon. Fall is such a great time at the Barn, we're enjoying watching harvest season in all directions!

Seeing Scottsbluff and the Mitchell pass was wonderful from the balcony. If you don't mind train whistle many times throughout the day and night you will be fine staying here and getting the rest you need. The rooms are small but the common room is very roomy. Allan is full of many stories and can keep you entertained if that suits you. The barn is well kept and has a lovely outdoors. We liked being close to the bluff and getting tips to the hikes. One night would have been adequate. I would recommend this b and b as long as you know what you are getting into.

We rolled into Mitchell at about 9:30 on a Friday night and were pleasantly surprised by the bluegrass jam session happening in the bunkhouse at Barn Anew. Alan and Cher were gracious and educational hosts along with Molly, the Australian shepherd. The B&B is immaculate, comfortable, and beautiful. The wilderness motif is perfectly appropriate for this part of the country. Breakfast was delicious.

The hosts here are very warm and interesting people. The tour of the barn made the antiques inside come to life. Each room has different western memorablia and theme. No TVs in the rooms but there is a nice gathering room for all guests to share. The only slight criticisms I can think of is that the rooms didn't have closets so there isn't a lot of room for your things. We were only there one night so it wasn't a problem for us. Breakfast was outstanding and if you have little ones travelling with you they would love the shepherd's wagons for an overnight. Very well done!
