“Walton Hall”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 26, 2013

We visited Walton Hall in April it was a trip to celebrate our wedding anniversary. My husband couldn`t have chosen a prettier or more romantic setting for our trip! We stayed in the old hall not the modern hotel at the other end of the bridge we did request this at time of booking. The approach to the hotel was lovely the old hall was stunning as were the gardens around it, to reach it you need to walk over a pretty little bridge I couldn`t wait to see inside the hotel!! The receptionist was very friendly and efficient we stayed in room 7 which overlooked the front of the hotel, the bridge and the lake. The room was extremely spacious with the largest bed I`ve ever seen and a little sitting area with a sofa and chairs, very comfortable. Large en suite with walk in shower and bath. The room was both warm and comfortable double aspect windows overlooking the lake. We had a swim and sauna to start our trip, very nice!! The bar area is nice, menu was typical pub fayre but tasty and not overpriced. Next day we went to York which is not far away we used the park and ride service which is very cheap and much easier than trying to find parking in York centre. After a lovely but tiring day shopping it was great to return to the peace and tranquility of the hall and have a refreshing swim. Breakfast was very well presented and the cooked breakfast was served by an extremely friendly waitress who was attentive, chatty and helpful. She told us a little about the history of the hotel and the family who owned it and suggested a few places we could visit during our stay. All in all we couldn`t find fault with anything during our stay. I can`t wait to for our next visit!

We booked here on the strength of the ratings but clearly we got the receptionist on a bad day. Bordering on rude and certainly not welcoming. On the positive side, a very nice setting but actually quite shabby in places and needs some TLC.

Went on a business trip with a group of colleagues recently. The hotel is set within beautiful surroundings. There are two parts to the hotel: the original old hall built on an island within a fishing lake (reached via pretty bridge) and the newer part on the 'mainland'. Both have astonishing bedrooms - all different but all stylishly decorated and finished. Many are a really good size - with four poster beds. All very characterful.

I have stayed here a few times over the past seven years and every time I've had a good night's sleep (though a couple of others complained of a hard mattress - probably a matter of preference). The usual niceties if this type of hotel are available: refreshment tray with selection of drinks, iron and board, toiletries, hairdryer (though this is one of the installed ones in the bathroom - one you can probably blow more powerfully yourself than).

This time I stayed on the island and it prides itself on looking traditional - wide, heavy wooden doors, original staircases, etc. However, there are great modern additions, such as the good sized indoor pool with sauna, jacuzzi and steam room.

Comfortable, relaxed bar area (pricey, though!) with patio to terrace. Bar food also served here but I've never tried it so can't comment on quality.

Food in the restaurant was, as always, delicious. Good wine menu. Breakfast ample and well cooked (small selection of continental breakfast items available, too).

Will definitely return.

We booked one night at the hotel, mainly because it looked so lovely in the pictures. When we arrived we were disappointed to see a modern hotel beside the lake , our first thought was that we would be put in a soulless hotel room in an 'annex'. Happily, we were in the main Hall. Walking over the picturesque bridge to reception was quite magical on a peaceful cold evening with ducks landing on the lake. We had upgraded to an exec room. We had a lovely large room with a four poster bed and large bathroom. We had a corner room with fantastic views of the lake on two sides. The pool was lovely, we went for a swim before breakfast, so it only got busy when another couple arrived! A lovely start to the day, peacefully swimming up and down looking out over the lake and the countryside. Breakfast was ok, nothing special, but service was prompt and efficient. The staff were all very helpful. There is a nice pub just up the road where we had a great pub meal if you don't want to eat at the hotel. We thought it was good value for money.

Room Tip: We had an exec room on the top floor in the corner, great view and large.

I booked this hotel unseen as I live in London, but was taking my mum for a surprise birthday party this weekend, as she originally hails from there. i certainly was not disappointed on seeing the hotel for the first time. From the initial enquiry through to the night of the party all the staff were fantastically friendly helpful and attentive. Nothing was too much trouble, and Jonathan who looked after us fornthe evening of the party was fantastic... Every home should have a Jonathan ! The setting is really beautiful and all the rooms we had booked were perfect. Clean, spacious and beautiful views to the lake and beyond. Quite a few of our guests who are based near Wakefield are planning their return visits, and My husband and i are already talking of escaping there for a quiet weekend away and look forward to experiencing The Waterton Park Hotel again.

Having stayed here for New Year, Valentines Dinner, Xmas and our own celebrations over a few years we have always been pleased with the level of service, quality of the food and the attention to detail, especially the exec rooms. I was pleased to see that Walton Hall the mansion in the middle of the 26 acre lake ( or pond as 1 reviewer described it ) which is part of the Waterton Park Hotel is now using renewable energy for its pool/spa and bedrooms, a good move towards Green tourism.

We were really impressed with this Hotel as a wedding venue. Friends of ours had a civil ceremony and wedding reception here and they could not have chosen a more scenic venue. The wedding food was fine, nothing special (although the lemon cheesecake dessert was to die for!), but the food in the bar was gorgeous. I didn't use the spa or pool but heard good things. Our room was in the lake house part of the hotel and it was so unique and old-worldy. Loved it. Only downside was that they couldn't seem to regulate the temperature in the rooms. Our room was constantly too cold whereas the people staying the Hotel constantly complained that it was too warm.
