First, the house is gorgeous and complicated in a once-was-a-mansion sort of way. Right in the middle of Lincoln's historic downtown, right around the corner from the capital building, this old home has been lovingly preserved and even transformed - the rooms were oddly shaped, and our suite consisted not only of a bedroom but also a sitting room (with a tv and media center) *and* a bathroom *and* a separate shower/hot tub room. We had lots of space! (There was also a somewhat hidden dollhouse room - maybe someone's kids would love it? We were too tall...)
We were on a road-trip across the US, and I have to say: the enormous bed at The Rogers House was the best bed we slept on the whole trip. It was amazing - I can't remember when I last slept so well. I should go back, just for that.
The room was more decorated than I would have chosen, maybe, and had lots of knick-knacks. That's the style they're going for, and I'm sure that loads of people would love it.
The breakfast was COMPLETELY out of control. The owner had emailed me, after I made the reservation, about dietary preferences, but I never imagined that he would take my response so seriously! He created separate feasts for both of us, in ways that were incredibly attentive and personal. There was an enormous amount of food, and coffee and tea and fruit, all presented on real china, etc. It was terrible to walk away from the table, but we couldn't eat any more delicious (very rich) English-style goodies once we were done.
The innkeepers were incredibly generous, with snacks and instructions and help, but were also incredibly casual and welcoming. (We were also offered a bigger room than we had originally requested and paid for, maybe because it was available, which was very nice.) We would go back anytime we need a place to stay in Lincoln.
