We should have known when the car park was near empty at 1pm when we arrived that something was wrong. It should have been heaving on Fathers' Day. We were kept hanging around before anyone 'welcomed' us and there seemed to be confusion with their booking for group ahead of us.
We gave our order at about 1.15 and our starters were served after 2pm. We managed to have a laugh over the spelling and grammar in the 'special' menu and did a lot of catching up whilst we waited. My 'Gem's salad' was served without the walnuts or a dressing and the poached pears were served as finely diced and without doubt completely uncooked in any way.
Had we been asked how our starters were I would have told them! Our main courses were from the chouice of roasts 'with all the trimmings'. No trimmings with my nicely cooked pork, no apple sauce, no crackling, rthe chicken had no bacon, sausage or stuffing but the sausages were apparently good with their mash and about 3 (obviously from a frozen packet) onion rings-- we passed over brocolli florets in sympathy for a plate without greenery.
We hoped that we might have had an explanation of a kitchen crisis or something to excuse the continued excruciatingly slow service, despite several waiting staff around, but no. Only when I looked at other reviews did I realise that this is obviously an ongoing situation which the management seem to choose to ignore. Do they not read Trip Advisor? The building s rather nice shame the service only generates bad talk for the Talkhouse.
