“Very happy!!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 28, 2013 via mobile

This is certainly one of the best places I have recently been to in Sussex. A lovely atmosphere, friendly staff and good food. And in a lovely quiet village. There isn't really anything bad to say about The Ram, the only thing I may say is that the toilets could do with a paint, but if that's the only thing that lets it down then they must be doing something right. Will certainly be returning very soon. Thanks to all at The Ram for a lovely night.

We stayed in Bloomsbury for a romantic mid-week break. When we arrived slightly early for check in we were immediately greeted by smiling bar staff who showed us to our room straight away. The room was fantastic, beautiful furniture, high ceilings and a truly relaxed ambiance. The roll top bath took our breath away, reminding me of something out of a Jane Austen book. One of my favorite parts of the stay was when I soaked in the bath, using the gorgeous complementary bath products and watched a film at the same time... having a bath in the same room as the bed and TV certainly has its advantages!

We settled in to our room quickly, luxuriating in the massive bed with ever-so-cute pillows featuring a dachshund... a great pub for dog lovers! The flat screen TV is well situated for viewing from the bed and it was quiet enough for a mid-afternoon snooze. We knew we didn't have to worry about rushing and getting a table in the pub for dinner as the staff had already reserved one for us!

When we went down for the evening everyone was incredibly friendly and the service was second to none. Drinks were brought to our table, the staff noticed when we were running low on wine and beer, coming over to take our order so we didn't have to go to the bar more than twice the whole evening. Not that this would have mattered as the staff at the bar were friendly and the service there was also fantastic.

We had a two course meal included in our stay and we both enjoyed the great high quality food. We ordered from the set menu but could have ordered a la carte & paid the difference, which just shows how flexible and customer focused the Ram Inn is! I had mackerel pate & toast followed by goats cheese tart, while my husband had soup of the day (tomato & pesto) followed by sausage and mash. We then deviated from the menu & shared a very generous cheese board for which we happily paid extra. All the food was great & very good value, even if it hadn't been included.

The wine was also very good - I recommend the Merlot La Paz, while my husband enjoyed the ale (Doom Bar & Beachy Head). After a fantastic evening with super friendly staff and gorgeous local dogs to cuddle, we slept very well in the massive bed!

The next morning we finished our stay with a very nice full english breakfast, well cooked with a large cafetiere of coffee to wash it down. When we checked out we were also pleasantly surprised to see our bar bill was very reasonable too!

A tip for non-drivers, we took a train to Glynde and walked from there to Firle, a pleasant 25 walk that meant we didn't even need to use a taxi as we previously expected.

We highly recommend the Ram Inn and will definitely be returning!

Room Tip: Bloomsbury is absolutely beautiful and was perfect for us, but if you aren't planning on spendin...

This is our second visit to the ram. We came down on Bonfire night and really enjoyed the food stall, so I begged my partner to take me back when he asked where I wanted to go for Valentines Day.
I was not disappointed the food was outstanding and hats off to the head chef who I believe is called Jack.

We will definitely be back to sample more off the menu and his culinary delights. The service we received was also great. It is a fabulous place all round.

Extremely warm and helpful staff; a lovely spacious room; delicious food and set in a beautiful little village. Very high quality in every way, without being pretentious. Lovely roaring fires and comforting hearty food. I am looking forward to going back.

Mud, dogs, rain, cold, wind; posh people, not so posh, locals who sound like visitors, other locals who sound more like locals and who seem extremely tolerant of the latter; roaring log fires; very friendly, helpful and humorous (in a sane way) staff; great dinners, brilliant breakfasts . . . I mean, providing you're not the type who gets sniffy at a bit of wood smoke in your smoked bacon, you'll really like this place.

The room we stayed in was large and warm. The bathroom is a few paces away (so you'll need to wear one of the provided bathrobes, or run very fast, when going there) but it's just for you, so you won't experience that unsettling sensation of someone else's warmth still lingering on the loo seat.

Overall, the Ram is a bit chaotic but in a good way. It's not perfect but it's also not perfectly sterile like some hotels/posh B&Bs can be. It feels like a community pub which is also very welcoming of outsiders.

Had a nice lunch at The Ram.The food is good but personally I do not like dogs everywhere when I am eating. Why can't they have a dog free zone up the steps perhaps at the far end of the pub?
We parked at the back car park and it was very muddy after the recent weather. When we got to the door the ground was covered with cigarette ends. Surely these should have been cleaned up regularly. They looked like they had been there for ages. The toilets are also shabby, not shabby chic!
Staff were welcoming. So all in all a mixed bag. Some real attention to detail is needed like cleaning the windows and glass containers for the candles. There are so many good pubs and places to eat and stay these days like theFeathered Nest in Oxfordshire. This pub needs to up its game!

We stopped for a light lunch here midweek. It was a while since our last visit, and I had forgotten just how lovely it is!
The old building has real charm, retaining its layout of being several interconnecting rooms. This, the plain boarded floor, understated decor and roaring fires make it cosy and welcoming in a real old pub way. The staff are all friendly, charming and efficient.
There were plenty of interesting options on the menu, and we were both very happy with our choices. Absolutely everything was homemade and delicious, so much so that we were tempted into having a sticky toffee pudding to round it off and were not disappointed!
