“Paradise Found - A True Kittian Welcome”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 4, 2013

What a fantastic location for anyone who wants to stay in St kitts. So pleased to see that it is still going strong. I stayed here with friends and had the most wonderful time. It was their second trip here, but my first.
The apartment was clean and welcoming, with the owners Ray and Sue the perfect hosts. Their knowledge of the area and advice on eateries/things to do was fantastic. The grounds are absolutely beautiful. My balcony had views to die for and I could have happily have lived there for the rest of my life. If my lottery numbers ever come up, I would certainly be making an offer to the owners!
It is such a relaxed place, I had some of my best night sleeps there and lazy days. Do not book the Marriot, come to this gem, you will not regret it. Its only 15 minutes drive to Basseterre, the Capital with some lovely old buildings, great shopping area and The Circus, the Town Square where you can watch the world go by in one of the restaurants surronding the centre.
I was there in Fabruary and the weather was between 75-80 degrees and beautiful blue skies that matched the Caribbean sea. You will love it.

We (a couple) stayed in upper floor appartment for 1 week. The place is located 15 min by car from Basseterre, close to main road but very quiet at night. From the balcony there is an excellent view over the ocean, and from the entrance you can admire the lush green mountaines. Garden is nicely kept, enough of space in front and at the back of the house. Our apartment has 2 rooms, a large living room and a small but adequate kitchen. The most valuable assets of Mule House are its owners, Sue and Ray. From first contact via email to our last handshake they were responsive, friendly, with lot of useful local informations. Sue waited for us at the airport, helped us with renting the car, and escorted us to their home. Night sleep was always good and never hot, due to constant breeze. Same goes for sitting on the balcony. We woke up every morning at 6 am (by ourselves) made us a pot of coffee and sat on the balcony with book or iPad in hand, enyojing the sights and sounds of St.Kitts. WiFi was there but not always working in full force, using Skype was difficult, using internet much easier.
If not into Marriot or Ottley Plantation, Mule House will give you plenty of space and true Kittians wellcome. Home away from home is what came to my mind, and some repeated guests has confirmed that this is the case with Mule House.

Room Tip: Upper apartment has a balcony with THE view.

We had a wonderful holiday - batteries fully recharged. Sue and Ray are a lovely couple and were very welcoming - made us feel at home straight away. Accommodation was spotless. Cracking big gardens with lots to see and do. Chenille apartment had steps directly into the garden and views of the Atlantic. Sue is very knowledgable of St Kitts life/surroundings and was eager to guide us when we asked for advice. We were brought fresh fruit from the garden - delicious. After our long journey Sue picked us up at the airport, had kindly got some provisions in for us and arranged our car hire pick up from the house (thank you :-)). Both Ray and Sue were great with our kids which is very important to us and helped us to relax and enjoy our holiday. So glad we didn't pick the Mariott experience. Beautiful island, beaches and people. Would go back to St Kitts and Mule House in a flash - highly recommended.

These apartments are run by two lovely people who want you to be happy. They have a beautiful garden and work hard to keep it so. Unfortunately for us the accommodation was just too basic. The beds were so hard we could not sleep properly, even if we were the first to complain in 17 years - are the beds really that old? It didn't help there was a family downstairs with two lively boys who woke us up early every morning. We left a week early and went over to Nevis! As long as you are expecting 'no frills' you will find Mule House good value for money.

This was our first visit to St Kitts, knowing nothing of the island, but Sue and Ray made us feel completely at home from the moment we arrived. Ray met us at the airport and Sue stocked the kitchen with our favourite food items. Mule House is surrounded by beautiful tropical gardens, perfct for relaxing at the end of the day. Our hosts were marvellous at arranging local trips for us. An unforgettable evening spent watching a leatherback turtle laying her eggs on the beach, before returning to the Atlantic Sea. And an amazing rain forest walk with the President of St Kitts Horticultural Society.
Sue recommended a hire car, which was invaluable for exploring the island. We enjoyed our stay enormously, and would thoroughly recommend Mule House to anyone wishing to visit St Kitts.

My wife and I have been returning to Mule House every year since 2000. We find it peaceful, with beautiful gardens to relax in and a wide variety of fruit to try. Sue and Ray our hosts are amongst the most friendly and helpful people we have met. Nothing is too much trouble for them. St Kitts is a wonderfull island with sandy beaches, rain forests, old sugar plantations and the imposing Brimstone Hill Fortress with its marvellous views and history. We are already looking to return next year.

Room Tip: Apartments looking on to the gardens.

I had been to St Kitts previously so knew how beautiful it is, but also how expensive it can be! Luckily, we found Mule House on their Holiday Rentals page, which, while not budget in quality (or price if you’re used to travelling in Asia or Africa) is much more reasonable than the majority of other places on the island. The well-equipped kitchen also meant we could eat in some nights, saving our money for cocktails, diving and Caribelle Batik goodies.

I would highly recommend getting a car – there are little local minibuses, but they’re irregular and don’t serve the beaches/ tourist areas. Although MH is off the beaten tourist track, the size of St Kitts means that it’s a 10/15 minute drive to the capital, Basseterre and a 15-20 minute drive to Frigate Bay, the main restaurant/ bar area. The best beaches can be reached in about half an hour, (if your rental car can handle the appalling roads to the south-east peninsular, that is).

The views from MH down to the sea and up to the mountains are incredible, especially at dusk, and bring a bit of splendour to a sundowner on the balcony. The apartment (two bedrooms, bathroom, lounge/ dining and kitchen area are all good-sized rooms – two couples could easily share – and immaculate. Sue (MH’s owner) had left us some staples: fruit, rum and mixers for our arrival, and Ray (Sue’s husband) found us some coconuts from the garden for our run throughout our stay.

We really enjoyed Brimstone Hill, driving in to the rain forest, and diving and snorkelling in the beautiful clear water. St Kitts isn’t a place for high action, but is incredibly beautiful, and if you’re looking for a few weeks of blessed-out relaxation I would highly recommend it.

Room Tip: All the apartments have beautiful views, but two have access to the balcony - probably a bonus.
