Jerry and Tammy Rowse open their hearts and home to offer guests an authentic and outstanding working cattle ranch vacation. Immediately upon arrival, they, and dogs Aggie and Reagan and a cat or two, make you feel welcome, at home, and part of the family. We rode excellently trained American Quarter Horses, each displaying outstanding conformation, temperament and conditioning. I don't quite know how he did it, but Jerry matched horse and rider perfectly. We got in plenty of cattle work for most of our stay. We gathered the herd from pasture, drove them to the ranch, and sorted in the corral; we even "encouraged" a young bull to learn to cross the road (that several minute mini-roundup made the week!). Riding terrain consists of solid sandy footing along gentle rolling grassy hills. No scrub or mesquite to claw at your clothes here! Guest cabins are tastefully decorated in a Western theme, with thoughtful touches such as in-room coffee makers, refrigerators, microwave ovens, and plush towels (but not enough hangers/hooks). Porches are equipped with plenty of rocking chairs for relaxing. But you really will want to spend time around the supper table with the Rowses and any of their friends who may stop by. You will not find nicer people! (You will also be well fed delicious homestyle meals!)
My horseback riding friends and I venture each year to a working cattle ranch. We've been doing this for about ten years now and know what we like: small guest capacity; amazing owners; adults-only guests; and plenty of cattle work done on outstanding horses. We've been to at least eight different ranches in five states: we've returned several times to one, returned a couple of times to two more, but only made that one visit to most ranches. The Rowse's 1+1, in Nebraska's beautiful sand hill country, is definitely one ranch we want to visit again.
