For years we have held our company holiday dinner at Cafe Kandahar - and for good reason. Chef Andy and his team always go the extra mile to ensure that your meal with them is one that stands out from the traditional dining experience. Between all of us in our party, we tried a number of the items on the menu that night - all with different flavors and textures, as you would expect in a restaurant that focuses on quality and uniqueness, not simply filling a plate with a large portion of mediocre food. In particular the lamb, the pork belly, and the bison were standouts in my mind...though these dishes were just some of the many fantastic flavors we had.
Personally I did not choose the tasting menu (this time), but some in our party did. No one went away complaining about portion sizes or sitting too close. Rather, we enjoyed the opportunity to taste the Chef's latest creations (they change) and mixing things up. That is the fun of the tasting menu - getting to sample numerous flavors (expertly paired with wines!) without filling up on any one first.
Someone stated something about sitting too close...I love it. It reminds me of smaller inmate cafes found across Europe. Ambience was quaint, not crowded, and certainly not overly loud like some larger restaurants without any sound reduction methods (carpet or other).
If you have not tried it, and it is a special occasion: Book the Chef's Table Experience. Worth every penny!
No doubt - we will be back again and again. Thanks Chef Andy!
