“Good basic Motel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 3, 2013 via mobile

The location was in a nice quiet area across from a park. The lady checking us in knew who we were before we even told her. Rooms were clean and offered nice toiletries. Not fancy but good for us for a night's stay. Easy to walk around the town of West Yellowstone from here. As others have noted breakfast is pretty minimal. Recommend going to Ernies for breakfast.

Most hotels/motels are not cheap in this area but we were very satisfied with the One Horse Motel. It reminded me of the small mom & pop motels that I stayed in when traveling with my parents as a child. This place was not fancy but it was clean and very quiet. The breakfast consisted of coffee or tea and pre-packaged snacks and oatmeal. It was all we needed for a short overnight stay before visiting the Yellowstone Park again.

Small motel with very clean rooms. Our room had a very comfortable bed and a refrigerator for our beverages. Older style bathroom with a tub- no hairdryer but you can ask for one at the front desk. There is an ice machine on premises. Continental breakfast was coffee, tea, cocoa, oatmeal, small muffins, pastries and cookies available in the small lobby. We ate breakfast very early morning at the nearby McDonalds but did grab coffee and a muffin. All good and appreciated. There is a Subway nearby to get sandwiches to bring into the park with you.

Since this is a tourist area and just a few minutes from Yellowstone entrance, prices are a bit higher than you might normally pay at this type of motel. There is a AAA/AARP discount offered. Be aware of the cancellation policy that was in place at the time of our booking - by email only; 20% cancellation fee. Compared to some of the other lodging in the town, the price was reasonable.

We requested a quiet room away from traffic noise. We had a great nights sleep and would gladly stay here again if we revisit the area.

This is the kind of motel I stayed in as my family traveled in the 1960's. Park right out side the door. Clean simple room made for sleeping. This Motel has a small refrigerator, microwave, Ice machine across the parking lot that you scoop the ice (easy to fill your cooler). This was the smallest and most expensive hotel we stayed in diving from Oregon to Rapid City, SD and back (4 different hotels in 6 nights) but it was cheap for West Yellowstone so no complaint about the price. The quality was nice, the beds were comfortable, the breakfast is well not a breakfast (and not really advertised as one) I would be happy to stay here again. This may be a old style motel, but it has been nicely maintained.

One Horse Motel is a return to the small, clean, comfortable, no frills type of motel that lined the highways years ago. It doesn't have the perks of the big hotel chains, but it doesn't have the price either. And when you are visiting Yellowstone, how much time do you want to spend in the motel? There is a VERY modest breakfast provided, but we chose to walk down the street and get a "real" breakfast at Three Bears Restaurant one morning, and coffee and pastries for the road the next morning from the Morning Glory Coffee Shop, also just down the street. One Horse Motel is an excellent choice for your Yellowstone visit. Although West Yellowstone is just outside the park, be sure to allow about 45 mins to get to the closest main attraction of the Park.

A clean and comfortable place situated near the main part of town. Our room was very clean, with a comfy bed. The motel was walking distance to the tourist spots and was really quiet that enhanced a good night sleep. The staff were most obliging in making your stay a relaxing one. like most hotel/motels in the area it is close to the western entrance to Yellowstone.

Room Tip: All rooms seem to be the same.

The One Horse Motel is a throwback to the golden age of motor travel. Pack up the kids and hit the road! Before Holiday Inns, and Howard Johnson’s appeared on the travel scene, this is the kind of lodging you stayed at. A small property with a minimum number of cement block walled rooms, the One Horse is a delightful surprise! How can a motel this small be so nice? Owners Mike & Holly do a wonderful job running their operation. Nicely decorated and very clean full featured units -with fridge, microwave, flat panel TV, Wi-Fi, air conditioner and ceiling fan. I dare you not to smile.

The many dining & gift shop options are just a short walk away. Leave the car where it is!

I mentioned the attractively painted block walls only to hint at the quiet they provide. And quiet it is! A small laundry room is just steps away for your use, along with a hotel/motel first for me -A take all you want ice machine! No take a small bucket back to your room here -Fill the cooler -We don't care! I love it. I did it. Twice.

A very basic but nice breakfast area is set up each morning. Coffee, Tea, Oatmeal, packaged snacks only. Still well done though. It's just fun. Also nearby is a free hose/bucket setup for washing your car, if you decide not to use the pay wash across the street. The ONLY negative item during our two nights was the less than stellar TV reception. Perhaps due to the location of the town itself. No big deal.

I spoke with Mike upon checkout for a few minutes, and he may be the happiest guy I've ever met.

In a small town with THREE Best Westerns, The One Horse Motel is worth checking out.

Room Tip: It's a small property, so book early!
