“Another year, another fabulous meal off a fabulous menu in the middle of a fabulous nowhere”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 21, 2012

Swan Lake is a town so small that if you started to change a radio station at one end of the town, you'd finish at the other end. BUT, in the middle is a fabulous little Inn with a one-of-a-kind kitchen and menu for a place this out of the way. Kathleen is the owner and she simply does what us baseball aficionados would call knock the cover off the ball. Go on the Laughing Horse website, take a look at the menu, then find Swan Lake on the map and tell me how those two go together. If you're in Northwest Montana just make it a point to come through. The meal will be well worth it. I'm taking my wife and daughter there this Sunday, and won't be able to review that since it's so close to this, but big deal.

“John Wesley Powell Society Endorses Laughing Horse Lodge”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 18, 2011

So what you ask? Ten years of traveling and dining in small, privately-owned and exceptional locations like Teton Ridge Ranch and Bear Creek Lodge give us all the credibility we need to endorse Kathleen Moon's Laughing Horse Lodge. Set alongside Swan Lake in Swan Lake Montana, the ambience is pure upscale Montana. The food is excellent, wine choices perfect. And you haven't lived until the house parrot walks across the floor and climbs up your leg to set on your shoulder.
By car, on horse back, in a kayak, make your way to the Laughing Horse. It's just 15 miles south of Bigfork, Montana another great town to visit.

“The Food was worth the Trip”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 12, 2011

We drove 100 miles round trip to go to Laughing Horse just for dinner, on the recommendation of friends. It was well worth the trip. Not only was the food very fresh, but the layered flavors made it unusually special. The menu provides very attractive dishes, and will appeal to people tired of seeing the same old menu items. The restaurant's rather unappealing exterior shouldn't put you off, as the rustic, upscale atmosphere inside is quite inviting and "homey". Be sure to make a reservation before you set out, as even on a weekday night it was fully booked.
Will definitely go back.

“Fabulous food, fun MT ambience, smack dab in the middle of nowhere”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 13, 2011

The drive to the Laughing Horse is spectacular! We love to savor the stunning views of Swan Lake and the Swan Mountains as we anticipate arriving for Sunday brunch or for dinner. Stepping inside the door we are greeted by comforting aromas, a warm atmosphere, and friendly faces. The menu is not huge, but the salads are! Best hamburgers in the area by far. Tuesday nights are the chef's extravaganza theme meals, fixed price and full of yummy suprises. The Owner-Chef, Kathleen, goes out of her way to bring exotic tastes to our mountain community. Tourists lucky enough to find this place are blown away that food this good can be found "out in the middle of nowhere".

It closes down during the winter, and all of us locals are disadvantaged by not being able to go there to eat. The consolation is that Kathleen is off in some warm climate, cheffing at a classy boutique hotel and picking up more innovative ideas for outstanding food.

Don't leave without trying the cookie in a skillet! You will be dreaming about this further on down the road.
