“Absolute Paradise!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 17, 2011

We have recently returned from our Honeymoon, having stayed 7 blissful nights at Soneva Gili. I have worked in the travel industry for 15 years and have been fortunate to experience many luxury resorts around the world on a regular basis. I now have a new #1.

Everything was perfect. The villa was huge, very relaxing and every single luxury required was provided. We ended up spending most of our days on our private deck just enjoying the slow life and the beautiful lagoon. When we did venture out to the restaurants and bar, every single staff member was totally discreet, professional and friendly and nothing was ever a problem. The food, as expected at a Six Senses property was divine and the options vast. The spa too is fantastic and a must visit - pure bliss.

This is my 2nd stay at a Six Senses property and in my opinion the resorts are the best of the best and I prefer them over any of the other big luxury chains.

Simply divine and a property I will never forget...

We went to the long admired Soneva Gigi for our 25th Anniversary. At first we are a bit worry as the reservation experience cannot be called superb, but rather pain normal. After escalated the issue, we were very pleased with the outcome!

The receiving is good, the speed boat is a bit bumpy. Think of a high speed boat moving fast in a almost complete darkness lagoon.... Anyway, the moment we step on the property we felt warm welcomed! Our GRO is Gasim whom I have read other commenters said he is good. I think he is GREAT! Whenever you need something, he is there. For example, my wife accidentally get some grease on her newly bought dress, Gasim went all the way to obtain cleansing agents, cotton buff to our room, twice, to deliver enough to us so we can fix it. He arranged for restaurant, diving lessons, SPA, room services, everything! Also met a Chinese lady Nikkie who is a new trainee in the resort and she can speak Cantonese!

The resort is quite spread out on the island so you need a bike. The weather is better than I thought, not too warm and sometimes even cool in the morning! Our room is a corner suite with built-in steam room and gym. We hardly use the gym as it is so much fun jumping right into the lagoon in the morning or whenever you want! The suite also has a private area to swim but it is also not really necessary as we are surrounded by beautiful ocean and fishes! The top deck is a SPA area when it breeze is very comfortable to laid down and relax, also formed an excellent in-room dining spot. At night we can see the beautiful clear sky, stars, the moon. A romantic setting to say the least. Room is spacious and air conditioned in the main sleeping room and rest are open air. You won't feel the heat even at mid-day, the natural wood is very cozy and comfortable. The sun deck is inches from the water so you are "integrated" with the environment.

I don't have much expectation about food there as my experience is small resorts can't afford to have good food. I was wrong. The food on the property is quite good, not a 3 star experience but good enough that you enjoy it. It featured a wine, chocolate and cheese cave in the main bleach restaurant, a light snack bar where you can see the sunset (we watched it twice!) and a Japanese restaurant which you cannot compare with one in Tokyo or Hong Kong but just solid food.

The SPA is reasonable but I would not say it's excellent. At the SPA table you can see through a window down the floor where fishes passing by.

The island has lots and lots of sea lifes, a sea cucumber has its home down our villa. We have seen an eagle ray passing by twice. Numerous coral fishes and crab on our sun deck!

There is cocktail arranged and quite a few activities such as snorkeling arranged by the management that you won't feel bore if if not diving. One word of advice - they encourage no shoes, but please do bring your own especially when you walk on the wooden deck at mid-day after the 30 deg C sun burned the wood for couple of hours....

A highlight of our tour and make it memorable for us - My wife and I spent 6 days (5 nights) there, we learned Open Water Diving at the Ocean Paradise diving center. Russ and Sam (a Japanese lady who married to a Maldiveses and living on the island) are extremely helpful and friendly. We got our certification on our Anniversary Day!!

We really enjoy it and prepared to come back - despite it is not cheap!!

We were booked to go to Soneva Fushi as we are major fans of the Six senses/Soneva brand and values . Having been to Soneva Gili on two previous occasions we thought we would try something different .
Its a long story but we had some issues and asked to go to Soneva Gili as a preference and this was arranged and were we gald to go back. If you are a couple who enjoy each others company , good books, swimming and great food then there can be no better place. My wife and I are extensive travellers , holidaying 6-8 times per year. In february we always seek some sun and to recharge our batteries. It is so realxing to sp0end time with staff who are passionate about their island and their company. the whole management culture at Gili is about being inclusive. Each time we go back we see staff who have been promoted rather than bringing in newcomers. Holidaying at Soneva Gili does cost a fair bit but it is not expensive in terms of what you are getting and experiencing. If you decide to go you will not be dissapointed . We have a lready booked our 10 days for next year !

Bare foot chic doesn't get much better than this - it is stunning. All of the water villas are huge and spread over 2 floors with their own sunbathing deck, numerous day beds and all the mod cons. Rustic but very cool - we loved the glass bottom viewing seat in the bathroom. Everything about Soneva Gili has been thoroughly considered, even the black cables in the gym are wrapped in hessian, the level of detail is incredible. The food will give any Michelin starred chef a run for their money, and as you'd expect the Six Senses spa is pure heaven. This is somewhere you can well and truly relax, it isn't cheap, but worth every penny.

When we arrived at 10pm we were greeted by representatives then quickly taken by boat to the resort and we were checked in directly and shown to our room which has on arrival a food platter and champage. It was very relaxing from the minute we arrived.
Perfect, our man Friday then explained how everything worked and we had a direct line to him to organise us daily.

Room Tip: Our villa 19 was in the best spot

Outstanding food, accommodation and service. Our guest relations officer (Mr Friday) was excellent and nothing was ever too much of a problem for him. We found all the staff to be welcoming, friendly and professional... this was obviously a reflection on the management and owners of the resort who have built an incredible resort and overall brand. We also stayed at Soneva Fushi and found the same there (although our Mr Friday was much better at Soneva Gili). Would recommend this resort to anyone and everyone! We will be going back. As far as where to stay goes... it depends on what you want. Jetty 2 is the most peaceful and quiet and wonderful for sunrise, Jetty 1 has good views with more of a breeze and is probably the most popular I think, Jetty 3 has more breeze and is better for swimming but can get very windy (inside and out of the villa as it is all completely open) and rougher sea when the wind is high or tide is high. Also much busier as lots of boats passing nearby. We loved our villa and jetty but am sure they are all just as good as each other!
