“Excellent history displays”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 4, 2012

Lots of paintings and displays about the West. Don't get too involved with the grizzly claw necklace like I did -- I turned around and got scared by the real thing behind me. Stuffed, of course.

“One of the better Museums of the West.”

Well worth the time it takes to go through, they change some of the exhibits every so often so always something new happening here. Have some great programs every thursday evening. Take the tour train when here. its great.

“Near the State Capitol, well worth a few hours”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 14, 2012

We always try to visit a state's history museum. This is one of the best we have ever seen. It is well lit and they allow photos (but no flash or tripods). All the great painters and sculptors who specialized in Western themes are represented here. The Native American exhibits are wonderfully arranged and very informative. The C. W. Russell gallery is a must-see. Very reasonable admission fee.

I didn't expect much from a small museum in Helena but was pleasantly surprised. Very interesting and worth a visit.
