“A great family activity worth the time and price”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 6, 2013 via mobile

Not too long a drive from Great Falls or a short drivecfrom Helena. Great tour guide, friendly staff, take you on a leisurely boat ride on the Missouri River along the steep mountain walls Lewis and Clark rode through. Totally worth it!

“Fun way to learn history”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 31, 2013 via mobile

The tour guide presented a wide variety if historical and environmental information in a dryly funny style. Scenery is spectacular. We saw majestic bald eagles, and a charming family of Merganzer ducks. Boat accommodates wheelchairs easily and service was thoughtful and kind.

“Glad for this last minute find”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 29, 2013

We found this tour as we were finalizing our plans, and we are glad we did.
We reviewed TripAdvisor to see the high/low reviews, and it looks like the company has resolved issues addressed by past TripAdvisor reviewers.
Logistics:
We took the 3:00 tour on a very hot day and were prepared to bake, but there was a breeze as we traveled, and the "Canyon Voyager" was covered with plenty of shade. An employee said the covered boat is used for all week day tours.
At the ticket office there are restrooms and a snack bar/gift shop; the boat has a (small, of course) restroom.
Tour: Our captain Kyle was full of information (on history, plants, animals,...) and presented it in an interesting fashion. He was very patient with the preschoolers whose questions and comments were non-stop. He made a point to position and re-position the boat, so that passengers on both sides could see important views and get photos. An assistant spotted wildlife from the stern, while ensuring safety of passengers.
Scenery: The canyon was stunning, so bring your binoculars and/or camera.
We are so glad we found this boat tour!

“Gates of the Mountains Boat Trip”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 22, 2013

This was a wonderful 2 hour trip. We went at 9 a.m. in perfect weather. There was a group of birdwatchers on board who found it worthwhile, seeing turkey bultures, osprey, and bald eagles. The guide(boat driver) was knowledgeable and spoke well, telling stories about the history as well as the geography of the region. If something of interest was on the shore, he steered the boat over for a better view. A couple of times we saw deer, but no bears, although apparently they are there sometimes.
Snacks can be purchased at the marina that we leave from, and bathrooms are available. There is one bathroom stop during the trip
Cost $16 for adults.

“Fun two hours with great scenery”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 16, 2013

We enjoyed this 2 hour cruise with our informative captain. Great historical info and lots of wildlife, flora and fauna to see and hear about. Our boat had both indoor covered seating and outdoor open seating at the stern. There are several tours a day. Tickets can be purchased there and do not require advance purchase (except for dinner cruises). There's a gift shop with snacks at the dock and also restroom facilities. Passengers can eat and drink on board.
Tip: We went on a lovely sunny summer day. Please bring sunscreen, water, a hat or visor (which can be purchased at the gift shop) and enjoy the lovely scenery!
