“Camping in Beauty And Solitude”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 23, 2013

There is not much more we can say that has already been said about Paws Up. The beauty and solitude that is offered by the banks of the Blackfoot River can only be enhanced by the accommodations of a five star hotel suite contained in a tent. The food is every bit as good as the reviews have said. All of the activities are well worth the fee. The camp butler was there when you needed anything. The only down side to our stay was out of the control of Paws Up which was the closure of the Blackfoot to fishing due to low flow rates. The guides more than made up for the closure with float trips down the Clark. Just keep in mind that if your plans include walking out your tent to fish the Blackfoot, nature and the Montana Fish and Wildlife may dictate that you sit on the banks of the river without a pole instead.

We really appreciate that you took the time to write this review of your recent stay at Paws Up. Thank you!

I'm sorry that the Blackfoot River was temporarily closed to fishing. As you know, this is outside of our control, and while it can be frustrating, we fully support the decisions made by our friends in the Fish and Wildlife department as they are acting in the best interests of all fishermen to ensure the health of the river and fish that inhabit it. Of course, in such situations we make arrangements for fishing in alternative rivers, and fortunately it happens fairly rarely but cannot be predicted.

It was a pleasure to welcome you and I hope that you will have an opportunity to return again in the future!

We traveled to Paws Up with another family in August 2013. A fantastic vacation - fun for everyone from 6 years old - 72 years old. What made the trip was the truly delightful and attentive Paws Up Actitivty and Dining staff. The Wilderness Outpost guides were terrific - most noteably, Cavin, Justin West, Zac, Justin Capps, Matt Benson, Jereimiah, Patrick, Natalie and Wes. Along with Elizabeth and Linda from the dining team.

We loved our activities; White water rafting (Justin and Cavin were great with our young boys and daughters). Zac at Sporting clays was patient, knowledgable and fun to shoot with. Riding and Cattle drive were a favorite too. Just too much fun to list them all.

The dining experience was 5 star. The food was delicious, creative and made all the better by the attentive service provided by Elizabeth and Linda.

Thank you for a memorable trip.

Over twenty of us gathered for a cousin's 50th at Paws Up and a little adventure. The camps are perfect "glamping" sites with luxurious accomodations and excellent service, all provided in a natural setting that is breathtaking. Kudos to your staff, mostly young, fit and very helpful and friendly men and women. They worked hard and seemed consistently eager to provide excellent customer service. With part of our group I did the trifecta one day and the combination of biking, rappelling and kayaking make for a truly awesome day. This was a perfect place to gather for a celebration like this!

My group and I were so excited to come to paws up since we have read so many wonderful reviews. However, our trip was less than extraordinary. The concierge service, jessica vos, suffered and as a result things such as car seats for the children were not placed in the vehicle from Missoula airport to the resort. The grocery shopping that was specified many times to come prior to our arrival was two hours late. The itinerary for almost every day was incorrect and had to spend a fair amount of time on the phone with the activity staff, which put a damper in our day. When paying 5 star prices, you expect the best. For the most part the staff was great. Our driver for most of our trip was Philo Bemis, who was absolutely wonderful. Extremely friendly and gave unbelievable service. He was incredibly personable and made you feel welcomed to the resort. Paul from the outpost was very friendly to our little girl who was riding a horse for the first time. Kyle from Pomp was also full of knowledge and a wonderful server. However, one of the girls who was working at the lake house as our driver was less than impressive. She was rude and made it very clear that there was quite the caste system happening at paws up, which as a guest I found appalling. Over all our stay at the resort was less than we were anticipating, but the beautiful landscape and the friendly staff mentioned above made for a memorable vacation.

Room Tip: We stayed in meadow homes which I would highly recommend

Overall experience was GREAT! we stayed in a timber home so didn't have the "glamping" experience that sounds so fun. but we are not a camping family to begin with so was worried that was a bit much for us. even though the "glamping" tents sound fabulous & i sort of wish we tried it for at least a night or 2. we are usually not that active on vacation - usually staying at beautiful resorts where there is beach & pool & some summer activities (tennis, golf, water activities, etc...). so this was truly a diff't experience. we went just our family (2 adults, 2 teenagers & a 6 yr old). this kind of vacation is fun for your own family but i felt would also be great for multiple families travelling together. we did SO much - cattle drive, canoeing, white water rafting, clay shooting, paintball, ATV tour, archery, fly-fishing. we had never done most of that stuff. never even rode a horse before. it was GREAT! you do have to book your activities in advance which i found overwhelming. and i do have to say the concierge wasn't great at giving us guidance. times were not accurate leaving you rushed for lunch. my advice is to schedule one in the morning and if you want more, one in the afternoon w/ plenty of time in between for lunch. and be prepared for a later dinner. the camp for my younger one was ok. she was fine going & the counselors seemed very nice. i think it was hard for her going by herself & then a lot of the other kids knew each other (cousins there for a family reunion, etc.). service at restaurant was a bit slow but everyone is sooo nice & it is such a lovely setting!! and service at lunch could be slow at times but they always have a grill that u can walk up to & get basic hamburgers, hot dogs & chicken & a side salad that was delicious if you were pressed for time. the golf carts were great to have! the hot tubs in the timber homes was a wonderful treat. i know it's not very "ranch-like" but it would have been nice to relax by a pool when not having an activity or just have some down-time for the kids. overall, it was a great trip & i would definitely go back!! would love to do it again w/ extended family.
