I felt transported to New England......with. A view of the mts instead of the shore!
The clam chowder was excellent and the elk buger was finely ground, tender and perfectly cooked.
Our server was knowledgeable and helpful.
A delightful evening!

“Great Food and Service”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 7, 2013

We found this place while we stayed in Gardiner. They had such great food we had to I there twice. The first time I got the salmon which was cooked perfectly and had great flavor. Day 2 I got the hamburger which was great because it was so juicy and tender. Their dessert was also pretty good, warm and rich. The service was great. The owner was our server an he was very friendly and nice. He was always giving us a free dessert or appetizer. Overall it was the best meal I had all summer

“Forgettable dinner.”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed September 7, 2013

Denied a window seat in a dining dining room where one side was totally empty, we wish we had left then. We were given two large Mason-like jugs of water, but one straw. My wife's dish, a Bengal stir-fry, did not have much of the onions, peppers, and celery described on the menu and was swimming in too much of a too-much-ketchup sauce, an unpleasantly soupy experience. My Bison burger was okay, but with an unnecessarily sweet sauce applied and French fries that might have come from McDonalds. Our salads were pretty good, but that's the most we can say that is positive about our meal. We do not recommend this restaurant.

“A little out of the way, but worth it”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 6, 2013

This place is a gem in a see of mediocre food in and around YNP. The owners go to great pains to provide wonderful, fresh food. No liquor license, but you can BYOB for no charge. We had a beef stew that had an asian influence Bengal Beef, over rice. Chocolate desserts are great -- pay cash and get a free chocolate cake for dessert.

“Number One Why?”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed September 5, 2013

I have no idea why this place is the number one rated restaurant in Gardiner.

First the positive: The service was excellent. Our waitress was informative and prompt. We saved money on not purchasing alcohol.

And now, the not so positive: The special was a crab cake sandwich. I didn't come to Montana to eat crab. The other special was the elk burger. The waitress informed me that it wasn't gamey in taste. I ordered the elk burger and my husband ordered the regular hamburger. She was correct in that it did not taste gamey. Both were burnt to a crisp. In hindsight, the waitress did not ask us how we preferred them cooked, but we would not have ordered them overdone. The fries were frozen variety, but not soggy, at least--nothing special. The red velvet cake was a mushy disappointment.

The place itself is rustic and not real clean. I'm not getting the lighthouse and seaside theme in Montana. The bathroom did not have any soap. The soap dispenser was bone dry, so one could assume it has been quite sometime since it had soap in it. Now just think about the whole server/cook lack of soap when washing their hands...Yuck!

A couple of tips for visitors: They do not serve alcohol, but you can bring your own. There is no corkage fee. Their website must have not been updated for quite sometime as a hamburger was $15.00, not $10.00 as listed on their website. A note on the desert menu says a free cake for tabs over $30.00 paid with cash. We were not offered a cake, perhaps because we had ordered the red velvet cake. Do they mean a whole cake or a desert portion? It is a bit confusing.
