“Best Local Getaway”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 27, 2012

We live in Bozeman, but when we want a special weekend away, with or without our two young boys, we head to the Rainbow. The accommodations, service, and food are the best in Montana. While the menu has lots of options, we keep going back to the elk and bison - always perfectly prepared and totally satisfying. Starting the night at the bar upstairs is a great way to relax from a day of work, hiking, skiing, whatever. If the kids are with us, we usually ask to be seated in front of the fireplace instead of in the dining room. Even just a night at the Rainbow always feels like a guilty treat. We've been there when most of the place is dedicated to a wedding; Molli and the staff went out of their way to make sure we felt just as cared for.

Room Tip: We always stay pondside so you don't hear cars or trucks. Some rooms have adjoining doors for f...

I have been fortunate to stay at Rainbow on numerous occasions. I usually come with a crew of friends to get out of town to immerse ourselves in pure comfort and relaxation, while surrounded by beautiful scenery and tranquility. We live just north of Big Sky and we love to treat ourselves every now and again with an excursion to the Rainbow River Lodge.

Mollie and staff are always friendly and accommodating. Food is outstanding. And if you haven't noticed in the pictures, there is an infinity hot tub with outdoor fireplace...exactly!

Rooms are spacious and well appointed (cookies upon arrival? they got em'). Luxurious beds that you will find difficult to arise from? Those too! My friend and I even went to the mattress store to see if we could order them for our own homes, that's how comfortable they are.

One of my favorite things to do at Rainbow is when I finally get out of bed in the morning, putting on the comfy bathrobe provided, sitting on the porch in the Adirondack chair, and enjoying the complimentary breakfast while basking in the loveliness of Big Sky.

Whether it be a wedding or other special event, or just a quick getaway, I highly recommend a stay at rainbow River Lodge. You will not be disappointed. And believe me.. I am picky.

Room Tip: If you want true luxury get a pond-side room -AMAZING!

Spent two nights in their premiere suite and loved it. The hotel staff was very attentive and accommodating. They filled our cooler with ice for our hike, provided bear spray, supplied wine glasses for our room for after hours. The breakfast was lovely. The granola delicious. We also ate at the restaurant one night and enjoyed wild boar and an extensive wine list. We had 3 fireplaces. Although it was late August we had a wonderful fire outside on our porch one chilly evening. If you are looking to splurge try this place. Ask for their nicest suite. We got a spacious bathroom, living room and bedroom. It is small (only about 20 rooms) and quiet. It is on the main road but pond side suites do not hear the traffic at all. Celebrated our 10 year anniversary here and we are so happy we picked this lodge. I almost forgot.... you get wonderful homemade chocolate chunk cookies every day in your room!

We find this a difficult review to write. Based on their website and their confirmatory booking e mail which extolled the benefits of their restaurant we were shocked on our Monday night arrival at 7 pm to be told the bar closed in an hour and the restaurant was not open that night ! The receptionist did offer to seek to book us a meal elsewhere, but as this would mean not being able to have a drink ( and drive) we walked across the road to the local diner and had a good meal there.
Our room was a riverside view and it was certainly big and had some nice features including excellent toiletries by Molton Brown. However the overall impression was one of poor ( or possibly slipping) standards. No surface over about 4 foot had been dusted for a long time ( mantle piece, top of TV), the ceiling no longer had all of it smoke detector there - just two wires hanging from the ceiling. The lavatory seat was loose and the bottom sheet of the bed sat straight onto the mattress- there was no under blanket or mattress protector of any sort, and one wonders how many body fluids might have seeped into the mattress over time! The light outside our room wasn't working.
Come the morning the view onto the river was excellent and it was nice to sit on the veranda in the sunshine. The breakfast was excellent and of a high standard. The huge picture window from the breakfast area did however look extremely greasy in the sunlight and could do with a really good clean.
The complimentary wi fi worked well.
In summary therefore the property is not reaching the standards we would expect from its website or from its cost of $350 per night.

Dear Guest,
Thank you for coming to stay with us this summer! Thank you also for your feedback, we value your business & comments and are always looking to improve.
My most sincere apologies that your stay was disappointing. This is certainly not how we want guests to feel after being at the Ranch. We are taking your comments to heart to ensure future success and happy guests. The fire alarm is fixed, mattress pads on all beds, windows in the lodge have been cleaned and our dining room hours are posted on our website.
Please feel free to call me to discuss items on your mind and how I might possibly make amends 406.995.4132

Rainbow Ranch was instrumental in hosting a perfect wedding ceremony and reception. Thanks to Mollie and Rainbow's gracious staff, our guests enjoyed every minute of their stay there. The setting is beautiful, serene, and ideally located. The food and wine can't be beat in Big Sky. We highly recommend Rainbow to anyone hosting an event in Big Sky, looking for a luxurious place to stay, or for a gourmet dinner with first-class service.

Not bad for a rustic experience. Excellent food at the restaurant. No coffee maker in the room. No ice or vending machine. Would be 4 star with a few room upgrades. Beautiful mountain stream directly behind the property.

Room Tip: Limited # of rooms. Asked to see the room before accepting.

Dear Guest,
Thank you for coming to visit!
And thank you for your feedback! We have taken our guests advice and ordered coffee makers for every room. We have unlimited ice at the lodge and are always happy to deliver it to your room, apologies if this was not expressed during your stay!!
Room upgrades are in the plans, shortly after we unveil our new out door hot tub.
Thank you again for your feedback, we value your business and your thoughts!
Please let me know if you have any more to share or would like to join us once the new hot tub is unveiled. I promise there will be a coffee maker in your room and to hand deliver ice upon request 406.995.4132.

We stayed here for three nights in early August. We booked a Riverside Luxury room as we decided to treat ourselves to an above average room and first class service. The location is lovely, seeing the Gallatin River from our room was great. The room is fine but not luxurious. The breakfast is also nice and offers some healthy and delicious choices. However, there were some relatively small requests that were not met. I called before arriving to confirm and make sure there was an in-room coffee maker and was told there was. This is important to me as I am an early riser and like to have coffee right away. When I realized there wasn't a coffee maker in the room, I asked at the front desk and was told they would try to locate one. I asked several times, different people, and never got the coffee maker. I find it strange that a coffee maker could not be had because other rooms do have coffee makers. Secondly, one of the lights above the bathroom mirror was not working and I asked to have it fixed. It's difficult to see to put on makeup in the bathroom which is somewhat dark. It was never fixed nor did anyone from the hotel contact me to follow up. I mentioned these two things in the survey I received from Rainbow Ranch Lodge and never heard from the owners/managers. I don't feel that we had a "luxury" experience and I'm disappointed in the lack of responsiveness.

Dear Guest,
Thank you for coming to visit Rainbow Ranch this summer!
My apologies for the lack of coffee maker and bathroom light not being attended to. This is not how we operate and I am sorry you had to experience this. Good news, thanks to your feedback we are ordering coffee makers for all of our rooms!
I am happy that we personally had a chance to visit on the phone about these issues and I hope you are feeling better. Maybe you will give us a second chance and come back for another visit, please don't hesitate to call me for any more feedback and to book a room at a great rate 406.995.4132.
