“Don't stay there”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed July 15, 2014

Come to see the building, but don't stay the night. Lousy, dirty, smelly, very noisy, very small rooms, no TV/ wifi/ fridge/ airco/ coffeemaker or ventilation. Mildew on the ceiling. Very old and small bathroom. No working phone, despite several attempts by maintenance. You can literally hear the conversation in the next room. Lousy beds, old linnen. Next day bed was made, room wasn't cleaned. Meals (incl breakfast) are below standard. Only WiFi is in central lounge, but very weak signal.
Needs a complete work over, isn't fit for current day guests. Past glory, doesn't live up to the price.

Room Tip: Don't, book another hotel

This place has beautiful grounds, and a stunning lobby. The room was a dump. for $208 a night I reccomend visiting the hotel and staying somewhere else. The housekeeping is terrible. Our patio was covered in bird droppings and the furniture was dirty. The bed skirts were falling off the bed in multiple places and the closet smelled like urine.

Room Tip: Ask for a mountain view. Book early for the best possible dumpy room.

The Glacier Park Lodge is a great history lesson and has a good location to Glacier National Park. The Lodge is over 100 years old and still has its charm and glamour from the old days, but seems like the rooms are still stuck in the past. I am not talking about the small size of the rooms or the bathrooms, that is all fine and well, I am talking about beds and pillows. They are rock hard and of a very low quality and need to be upgraded. The sleep quality is below average at best.

As for location, the hotel is 250 yards or so from the East Glacier Park Amtrak Station. Its really convenient for train passengers. Otherwise your over 1hr drive to the Road to the Sun, 1.5 hr drive to Many Glacier, and 1hr drive to the West Glacier Entrance. You are about 15 minutes from the Two Med area, which is a great place to visit and hike (my favorite area), and you can hike to scenic point from East Glacier, but all in all, its not the best home base for Glacier Park visits in my opinion....

Given the history of the hotel and the beauty of the hotel I am happy I stayed. If I was arriving via Train again I would stay here, but otherwise I would like to stay closer to St. Marys or within the park

Glacier Park Lodge celebrated its hundredth anniversary a year ago and it remains a beautiful property. The huge Douglas fir beams invite you into the lobby and your eyes follow them way up to a huge cathedral ceiling. It is a short drive to Glacier National Park with its spectacular scenery and hiking trails. Both the main dining room and the lounge have good food, beverages, and service. The rooms are adequate and although the bathrooms are small the peacefulness of this property is what counts. There are many areas to sit and read, work on puzzles which are scattered about, listen to music in the main lobby, play some golf, or take pictures from the back veranda.

Glacier Park Lodge offers an environment that is relaxing, quiet, and slow-paced. If you are looking for a park Lodge that allows for reading, listening to live Piano music in the lobby, sitting on the main balcony front or back with no purpose, a round of golf, a leisure walk around the property, sitting by a large stone fireplace (lobby), and a good meal - this is the place for you. The lodge is impressive as it was built in the early 1900s for the wealthy to relax, rest, and explore Glacier National Park. The building is constructed with large logs which add to the rustic feel and atmosphere. For the price, this is a great deal for a family or couple.

If you are looking for a flat screen TV, 600 count sheets, large bathroom with roomy shower, a fan over your bed, extensive dinner menu, coffee bar in the lobby (e.g., Starbucks), a large variety of "indoor" activities (e.g., movie theatre), this is likely not the best choice for you. The property is truly a "Lodge" in Glacier National Park.

Helpful Tips: The lodge is located near Glacier National Park. As a result, you should pack accordingly. Bring a coat for the chilly evenings. As the hotel has limited amenities (e.g., 24-hour hotel lobby store), you may want to stop on the way and buy some snacks, water, etc., for your room and snacking. Binoculars are recommended to truly enjoy the mountain scenery and wildlife.

Room Tip: Rooms in the main Lodge add to the feel of being in a "Lodge." However, they are also a bi...

See my review of the Lake McDonald Lodge for more detail. For more GNP accessible location and views, stay at McDonald. For best views, but more worn property, stay at Many Glacier. For golf, puzzles, E location, stay here. While at this Lodge, try Luna's near by for huckleberry pie. Best in or around the park. Also, drive up to the Prince Wales hotel in Canada. 2 hours but bring your passport. Lovely views there over a quaint summer Canadian vacation spot

We stayed at Lake McDonald Lodge, the lodge at Many Glaciers and Glacier Park Lodge on our visit to the park. We thought GP Lodge was by far the nicest of the 3 lodges. It is the newest, the most spacious, and the most up to date of the lodges. The grounds are pretty. The pool was not full when we were there, but it is a full size lap pool. The lobby is a grand space at this lodge and at the other 2 lodges. Food is the same at all 3 lodges.
