We were on our way from Idaho to Washington state, on the long stretch of i90 that seems to go forever. We were hungry and really desperate not to eat at a chain restaurant. No better place to stop than Drummond, we thought - there seemed to be anything there anyway. Just at the exit of the place, we saw Parker's restaurant, and we're so glad we did!
The place is a quirky throw-back to '50s diner experience. Staff and owners were very welcoming, genuinely attentive without crawling all over us. The food choice may be somewhat limited - they specialise in burgers after all - but there are 125 of them!!! And the stuff is fresh, no pre-frozen conveyable belt stuff. Not just the patties, also the fries (try the rosemary fries, or the sweet potatoes fries). Fantastic stuff. Any place that welcomes my kids gets my thumbs up, but often the trade off is poor food. Not here.
They also run a challenge, seemingly an impossible one, that adds quirk and colour to this little gem: eat a 2 lb cheeseburger, 1 lb fries and 1 large milkshake within 20 minutes, and you get it for free. The pictures of the 10 winners were on the wall. Those of the 55 losers weren't.
