“Best Value in Cooke City! (even has wifi)”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 19, 2010

Spent 3 nights here while seeing Yellowstone. There was a little confusion when I made reservations but all was straightened out. We stayed in two cabins which were great for the price. Neat mascot dog to alert us to the wildlife.... :) The drive through Lamar canyon to get into the park is gorgeous - we did it about 6 times and enjoyed it thoroughly. Owner doesn't brag about the wifi, but it does have it - nice! Might want to bring a thingie for extra power outlets if you bring your own coffeepot like I do, and for your laptop. Over all a great bargain.

4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 21, 2010

Our second night in Yellowstone it snowed. We had planned to camp. We were cold, we were tired, we were nearly 45 minutes from a town with a heated room. But I called the High Country Motel, told the man who answered of our dilema and asked if anything was possibly available. Yes, he told me, but the office would be closing before we could get there. But, if I felt ok with it, he could put the key in an envelope and tape it to the door for me! : )

I was so excited to find a place to stay, with reasonable rates, and a proprietor who so clearly showed a home-town hospitality not marred by the bureaucracy you so typically see at larger establishments. The room's decor was out-dated (shag rugs, wood-paneled walls) and the bathroom could have used a renovation (was pressure was low), but everything was comfortable and clean, and the heater worked great!

The next morning, the man we had spoken to the night before came to our car as we were packing it and chatted to us about our trip so far, the weather we'd been having, and so forth. He recommended a great little place for breakfast and was friendly, courteous, and kind.

If you're okay with a place that doesn't have cell-phone service, wifi, or a fitness room, (and chances are, if you're already at one of Yellowstone's gateway towns, you are), then I would absolutely recommend this establishment.

I felt very safe and comfortable in this motel. Parking is right in front of your room. Nothing fancy but I didn't spend much time there since I was in YNP most of the time. Manager nice and easy to talk to.

Nice cabin, great staff, clean, convenient, fair price, accepts dogs...great mascot "Brandy" is a wonderful dog (Aussie).
I wish they had regular coffee pots in the rooms, and some coffee packets to buy. I also wish the toilet seat wasn't so ice cold...but the water is really cold in the cabin, so assume it goes w/the water...maybe a wooden seat would help ? Overall it is a great place to stay, only charged us $10 for the duration for our dog

The motel located on the edge of town in Cooke City, Montana. Half little cabins and half rooms (all open to the parking lot).

The staff were accommodating and friendly. The room had a nice little cabin feel. The only issue we had with this family run motel was the area itself -- it seemed to be a little rowdy and there was not much the hotel staff could do. On a Tuesday night we had people outside our room partying and drinking and slamming doors without regard to anyone well into the early morning.

  • Liked — Close to Northeast entrance of Yellowstone.
  • Disliked — The atmosphere of the area where the motel is located.
