“Family getaway”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 22, 2012

Just returned with my extended family, ages 9 to 78, from a lovely weeks getaway at the guest ranch. We all loved each and every one of the friendly staff, the out of the way location, and the just-right accommodations ( not too plush, or too rough). Lots of activities to take advantage of whether you like to watch, climb or ride nature. The Nature Conservancy and naturalist program is a terrific feature if you want to really learn and get into it (it was a highlight for me, and my 13 yr. Old son). We told them we wanted to keep it a secret, but it's worth a look if you are considering and have never been.

here's comes the first Italian review!
If I have to summarize my stay at the ranch in a single word I would say: Love.

If instead you allow me to spend few more words, then I will start by saying that the very first impression as soon as you get to that lovely place is that your far from home no matters where you come from, but you have most likely never been so close to it. You do feel at home but there, which makes a huge difference.

The place is obviously an hidden Paradise, the Mountains that surround the Ranch, the landscape, the horses, the flowers and the colors, the ranch itself; you can hardly believe you can find a place better than this one. But there's something special there, something unique, and that is the people we met. They are special, and I wonder if they realize that. Scott, the Manager is a great person, than don't forget to treat very well the cook, he can change your life for few days, and believe me I'm Italian so I can judge :)! and the rest of the team..., they are all spectacular. We immediately connected with the guests, all great people, we felt we made friends in few days. Than if you love hiking as we do, that is the place man, I took many pictures but although I'm proud of most of them, they will never describe what we really saw with our eyes. All the activates are well set, just perfect. We have been travelling all over the world many time and in many different remote places and this place is where I would like to go next. The best time ever at the end of the day? waiting for the dinner outside talking to each other’s with a glass of red wine, smiling, laughing, exchanging experiences. This is your place.

What make a place perfect is the simplicity, here you will find it and you will miss it when you leave.

Andrea & Simona

Room Tip: We staid at Winter Main, I would repeat.

The service here is the best I have ever encountered. At the end of the week, you will feel like the staff are your friends. The food was very good at all meals. My husband has dietary limitations. His every need was met with a smile. In fact, he hardly had to ask as they anticipated his needs. The swimming pool is large for a facility of this type. The naturalist program with hiking is excellent. The scenery is spectacular. The ranch is incredibly quiet and serene, set back in a canyon with only a little used gravel road nearby. The comforting sounds of birds and of the nearby south fork of the Teton River are all you hear. The horse riding is mainly geared to beginner or low intermediate riders. If you are an experienced rider, note that most of the riding is head to tail at a walk at about a 2mph pace through the mountains. However, you will have the same horse for a week and they will match more experienced riders with more challenging horses. For a relaxing week of hiking, horseback riding, or just enjoying the pool and reading, this is a great place.

Room Tip: There are not many cabins and their setting is not that different. Allow the staff to help you choos...

We spent two wonderful weeks at the Ranch in July 2011 and it was one of the most relaxing and satisfying vacations we have ever had. The setting on the banks of the Teton River is lovely and private. The cabins are cozy and well-appointed, with fireplaces and comfortable beds. The food is varied, fresh and delicious, using produce grown on the Ranch and from other local sources. There were different levels of hikes and horseback rides offered every day with knowledgeable and interesting naturalists and wranglers. The staff was well-managed, attentive, and enthusiastic. The very best part of the Ranch is the people - both the staff, who love to share this very beautiful place with guest from all over the country, and the guests, many of whom return year after year, bringing children and grandchildren. We learned about the work the Nature Conservancy is doing in the area by visiting the nearby Preserve and witnessing for ourselves the valuable contribution the Conservancy makes to this part of the Front Range. We were at the Ranch as a couple, but there were solo travelers, who seemed very comfortable, and large families (three generations) as well. We highly recommend the Ranch to anyone who likes the out of doors and is interested in hiking and/or riding. We can't wait to go back.

Room Tip: Each cabin has its own charm - the staff can guide you on what will work best for you.

We stayed at the ranch with our two girls (8 & 11) in July and had a great time. The staff was incredibly friendly and helpful, as well as very knowledgable. We rode horses over beautiful scenery, hiked in the wilderness, and I fly fished for the first time ever. The cabins were clean and modern, and the food was delicious. We are vegetarians, and the kitchen was very accommodating to us and every other guest's dietary preference. We even got tours of the greenhouse and garden where much of our food was grown. The staff also presented the mission of The Nature Conservancy in a non-preachy and accessible way. We took a nature walk at Pine Butte with the staff naturalist and learned a lot about TNC's efforts to work with local land-owners to preserve the land. We also had fun at the happy hours. Just a top-notch operation in every respect. Our girls declared it the best vacation ever.

Pine Butte Guest Ranch is a wonderful place to stay and hike, ride horses, or just hang out in rocking chairs on the front porch of the lodge. We have just completed our third "regular guest week" visit and are already contemplating booking a spring workshop session in 2012. There are a couple things to be aware of if you're tempted to make a reservation: try to go now (in 2011) to avoid a somewhat hefty price hike next year (from current standard rates of $1800 (for a seven-day/night stay) to 2012's rate of $2200 (for six days/nights)). You can pre-book for 2012 now as well, through the end of the regular 2011 season (mid-September timeframe), and save 10 percent off the new rates (i.e., $1980 vice $2200). Despite the schedule/upward price adjustment for next season, this place is pretty competitive for what's included: full room/board and guided nature hikes and/or nature rides plus numerous other self-directed activities available. The Ranch personnel are all very knowledgeable, industrious, and dedicated to their hospitality jobs, which makes for a very relaxing, "want for nothing" kind of guest atmosphere. Book now for 2011--or reserve early (and snag your 10 percent off discount) for 2012. You won't be sorry!

Thanks for the great review, our guests are the world's best! I need to make one clarification. We will continue our 7 days/7 nights schedule in 2012! Sorry if there was confusion about that. While we are raising our rates 10% in response to our costs we are offering a 10% discount to everyone who books before the end of September. So come visit! Scott Randall, Ranch Manager
