“Open Pit Mining”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 2, 2013

A lot like the Kennecot Mine near Salt Lake City, UT, only much smaller. This would be very intersting if it is your first experience with open pit mining.

“Pit for a pittance”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed May 28, 2013 via mobile

$2.00 gets you to an overlook above the largest abandoned open pit copper mine in MT. 10-15 minutes is all you need.

“It's a pit. That's all you need to know.”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed January 5, 2013

Yes, there's some interesting history to the Berkeley mines and this pit -- but let's not kid ourselves. It's a giant hole, filled with weird-coloured water.

The chamber of commerce has tried to make this into a tourist attraction, but... well, again, it's a pit. There's a video thing and some interpretive panels, but there's not really a whole lot you can work with. Also, they charge you to see it. Really, chamber of commerce? REALLY?

We only stopped in because we were going right by to visit Evil Knievel's grave (and because I was interested after reading some studies that found microbes living in that horribly polluted water).

All in all, not worth a detour.

“Large, stinky hole”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 21, 2012

The veiw point shows how much rock was moved. If you take time to read the historical markers on the Interstate, you can imagine this place before mining (neighborhood & Columbia Gardens). Take time to head up to the top of the hill & overlook also.

“Great stop on Trolley tour, not sure I would go here especially”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 14, 2012

The Trolley tour stops here and its included in the price of the trolley. With the trolley tour you get a guide explaining the history and background of the pit. Without that input Im not sure how interesting the PIt would have been. It was very interesting to see and to imagine what went on there but not sure Id have appreciated the attraction as much if I hadnt been on the trolley tour.
