“A wonderful historical adventure”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 21, 2013

We had a serendipitous meeting with Mark as he stopped with his modified electric golf cart and asked us if we were lost or looking for something. We happened to be looking at the Copper King's Mansion late Sunday afternoon. We got to talking and he mentioned that he was an architect and long time resident of Butte and after awhile chatting about some of Butte's architecture, he mentioned that he gave tours. He normally didn't give tours on Mondays but agreed to give us a private tour early the next morning (Monday). His normal tours last 90 minutes and cost $35 per adult. We had planned on taking the trolley tour but this seemed more intimate and interesting so we booked him. Well, he gave us a 3 hour tour that included back alleys, the red light district and the highlight of an inside tour of the Anselmo head frame and winch building. He has been actively involved with the preservation of Butte's historical buildings which included making a wonderful seniors' centre inside another of the industrial buildings, designing the memorial to a labour strike which ended with the bombing of the union hall by its members. We wanted to get a sense of the history of Butte as we had toured Marcus Daly's summer mansion in Hamilton and seen the reclaimed Old Works area of Anaconda earlier on our six day tour of this part of Montana. Mark's informed and interesting personalized tour was a highlight for us and even though we got double the time for the same price, we think the B.U.S.T. tour would be great value and if you get Mark telling stories of his personal interaction with the buildings and people he is quite likely to extend the tour. His wife says she usually does not start looking for him until he has been out for three hours and the record is six hours! This tour is definitely a gem for anyone who values a more intimate personalized tour of Butte.

The fact that you had been seeking out the history of copper mining and copper kings in other towns was really exciting to me. The story is so big that it is difficult to decide what to talk about for 90 minutes. I just really liked the idea of your "informational" vacation and am glad I could add to your knowledge. Mark.

“If You want to see Butte, this is the way !!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 17, 2013

Kathy and I were driving in downtown Butte looking at the old buildings,we passed a golf cart with a tour sign on it "Butte Urban Safari Tours". We copied the phone number down and called to arrange a tour..This husband and wife tour company is run very efficiently and safe. Tour prices are a little higher than the Trolley but you get so much more. The owner Mark Reavis drove us on the best town tour we ever had ,Mark is a passionate historic site preservationist and Its possible he knows more about Buttes history than any resident alive today. Being a licensed Architect is a real plus when Mark determines if an old structure can be saved and what it takes to do so. Nicole Von Gaza-Reavis ,the other half of this venture and is very nice and keeps Mark on the straight and level Kathy and I really enjoyed meeting both of them !!! We highly recommend this Tour .

Thank you so much for our first Tripadvisor review! I aim to make each tour special and different. That was not difficult to do with the two of you! We make a lot of lasting friends with this tour company as it is so personal. We get just as much as we give, and in this case we have made some fabulous new friends. Looking forward to seeing you both again. Mark
