“Good location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 24, 2012

Very clean room and great location. Staff was friendly and helpful. Love the lobby and the high ceilings.
Room darkening shades and decent toilet paper (theirs was worse than forest service, if that is possible) would improve stay greatly.
Compared to other uptown hotel/motel options at around the same price this is better value and much cleaner. I will stay again.

Room Tip: I would ask to be on upper floor.

The Finlen is a good place stop. If you are after a taste of yester-year, this is the place. The lobby and ball room are grand. The room - it was two co-joined rooms - was clean and suited our needs for a simple sleep over. We had plenty of space. In the older part of Butte, we had no noise issues. There are several good eating options close by.

I've been to the Hotel Finlen three times, and have loved it every time. It is the cleanest hotel I've ever been to, and we get great rooms for very reasonable prices, sometimes cheaper than chain hotels that aren't nearly as good! The lobby is stunning. The last time we were there, they gave us a suite! We weren't expecting that for the price we were paying. Each room had a flat-screen TV and separate bathrooms, except only one of the bathrooms had a shower, which I found a little small even though I'm a small person. Despite that, I plan on visiting again someday soon.

While traveling through the area, I needed to get a room for the night. While trying to find a freeway exit with plenty of motel choices....I took the wrong one and thought I was going to have to backtrack. Then in the darkness up on the hill we noticed FINLEN HOTEL lit up in the back of a building. My wife said she'd read some reviews about it and thought we should give it a try. I'm glad we did, the hotel was old but really nice. The room was very clean and comfortable...you could tell it had been remodeled not too long ago. The bed was very comfortable and the shower was one of the best we'd had on our vacation...which is saying a lot since I'm 6'5" and beds and showers aren't always an easy fit for me. The only thing that this hotel lacked that most others have is a continental breakfast....which isn't a big deal to me since most continental breakfasts aren't that great anyways. We ended up eating in a little diner a couple of blocks away called the B&S diner that served up some really good biscuits & gravy and corned beef hash. Who wants to eat an old dried up donut or bagel anyway? I give the Finlen Hotel a big thumbs up....as well as the B & S diner.

It's old, it's somewhat dated but it's cool!! Stayed in the old hotel which has a impressive foyer/reception. Room was adequate and bathroom facilities were fine. Air con is noisy so need to go with ceiling fans at night unless you can sleep through a hurricane. No breakfast but coffee freely available. It's a shame it isn't more lively as with lots of people around it would be a great place. The older part of Butte where the hotel is located seems to have been hit by the GFC with many very nice old buildings boarded up!

The hotel was reasonably priced. It was a fun location in the old downtown area of Butte. We had fun walking around the old buildings and shops. The room was clean and parking was easy.

It was nice to meet and talk to one of the Montana natives and permanent residents of the Hotel. He was a wealth of history and information about the area.

I usually hate downtown hotels but this one is worth trying.

We arrived later in the day than we had anticipated and the hotel was great about it. The staff was helpful and friendly. Our room was beyond our expectations. We we traveling with 2 children and there were three adults. Not only was the room we stayed in huge, but it also had 2 washrooms!!! So great with kids!

The hotel is in the historic part of Butte which is very quiet but that was really neat all on its own. It felt like you'd stepped back in time.

The hotel itself is very historical and beautiful. JFK stayed there as well as many other famous people. It still holds its opulence from a time past and we were so happy to stay there.

If I am ever back in Butte... which I hope to be some day... I will stay there again for sure!!!

Room Tip: Ask for a large room in advance.
