We noticed an ad for this in our hotel room and had a half-day to spare, so we went down to the Tourist Office and booked. We are both interested in the social and political history as well as late 19th and early 20th Century buildings. The tour took in the historic downtown, the Berkeley Pit and the 'uptown' area. The driver/guide 'Denny' was very knowledgeable, with plenty of anecdotes and insights into the industrial and social history of this area, keeping us and about ten others entertained throughout. During the tour we saw public and commercial buildings in 'Chinatown, the 'Red-Light' district as well as the mine owners' houses and upmarket residentail buildings. Also included was a visit to the Berkeley Pit viewpoint where more recent events in mining were explained. The two hour tour lasted well over that time and we took in excess of a hundred photographs. Certainly a morning well-spent.
