“Pleasant Drive”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 3, 2012

The drive south on U.S. 191 from Bozeman to West Yellowstone/Yellowstone National Park offers enjoyable scenery, much of the trip right alongside the Gallatin River. It passes spur road to Big Sky, a nice drive up the mountain if you have time for a detour. The route offers a couple of decent restaurants, campsites, horseback riding, river rafting, and some good fly fishing opportunities. The road is quite curvy in places so drive carefully, don't tailgate, and be very cautious if trying to pass another vehicle.

“beautiful drive, mountains”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 23, 2012

I love this drive, though in the winter it can be pretty scary. The mountains are beautiful and it's just a hop-skip-jump to Livinston and Yellowstone National Park.

“the canyon is just a road?”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 11, 2012

I'm not sure why i'm rating the canyon but it is a very scenic drive to or from big sky resort and/or Bozeman. This road, however, is VERY dangerous. Cars are to 'hug' the white line to avoid collision (several crosses representing fatalities) drive the speed limit and stay focused. Chance of animal sightings and lots of fly fishers. Also overlooks the Gallatian River where people raft, fish, photograph, bridge jump, etc... Only about 39 miles long but takes at least an hour. Stop and take some pics while you're there. PS phone service is not available during this somewhat short drive.... which might not be a bad thing.

“Hiking, biking, skiing, kayaking, fishing and rafting...”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 28, 2012

Gallatin Canyon is located about 18 miles south of the town of Bozeman, MT and has an abundance of recreational opportunities. You can fly fish the crystal clear waters of the Gallatin River for rainbow trout, or hike deep into the Lee Metcalf Wilderness if you're looking for a little solitude. Campgrounds are abundant along the canyon road (U.S. 191) so you can set up a base camp and try everything from zip line tours to whitewater rafting, hiking to mountain biking, horseback riding to kayaking. Gallatin Canyon is also a gateway to Yellowstone, which means you'll have plenty of options for outdoor adventures.

“One of my favorite roads”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 19, 2012 via mobile

Moved here 2 years ago and this road is part of what brought me here. Lots of great rock climbing, fly fishing, hiking and scenery. Parts of "a river run through it" was filmed on this strech of the river. also if u turn down Spanish creek road there's a ton of Ted Turner's Buffalo that you can drive right through. Heads to big sky and west yellowstone. If your taking a tour of Yellowstone and staying in Bozeman. Take this way down early in the morning and you will likely see big horn sheep, elk, moose, and much more. Leave Yellowstone out of the north entrance through Paradise Valley.
