“The wolves were awesome!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 17, 2007

I highly recommend this B&B. We stayed two nights - one night at the beginning and one at the end of our trip to Yellowstone - in the Western Room and the Sourhtwest Room, both of which were very nice. We loved the decor in the Western Room had it a great view of the wolf enclosure. Listening to the wolves howling and watching them makes the whole stay worthwhile but you also get the added benefits of two great hosts, Mary-Martha and Chris, a super relaxed atmosphere and a delicious breakfast. We couldn't have asked for more - except that we just missed the arrival of the two wolf pups. We definitely plan on staying here again.

We had a wonderful 2-night stay at the Howlers Inn. It was extremely clean and sizeable for a B&B and the bathroom was spotless. The hosts were friendly and helpful in navigating the area.

The best part...the breakfast was only surpassed by the view of the wolf sanctury from our room (the cheapest one!). We could hear the wolves howling during the night and watch them interact right outside of our window. Plus, the wolf pups are great additions to the Inn as we were able to interact and play with the two little ones (growing quickly!). The Inn is a short 15-minute drive to Bozeman and easy coming and going.

What a delightful surprise! We stayed in the Aspen Room for 4 nights. It is quite large with 2 queen beds, 2 walk in closets, a vanity in the room plus a full bath with an oversized tub/shower that has a skylite over a small stone grotto and plants. Rooms are clean and fresh. The linens were most attractive, with fluffy quilts. There is a small microwave, fridge and TV. Howler's Inn also has wireless internet.
The Aspen Room has windows on 3 sides so you can look to the Bridger Mountains, or to the woods - where we watched a herd of deer early one morning. The west windows open across a field to a conservancy. We watched a coyote wander about the fringe of trees while the wolf pack at the inn paid great attention...ears and noses pointed to the wind.
The owners, Mary-Martha and Chris, are both great in the kitchen and the breakfast is terrific. I wish I had thought to ask for their recipe for French Toast Souffle. They are a warm and frienldly couple who make you feel so much "at home" that you hate to leave.
There are 2 large TV's in the common area, plus a hot tub and a sauna if you feel like lounging. Or you can sit on the front porch and take in the views should you need a breather from hiking, biking, fishing, skiing, visiting Yellowstone....you name it. Howlers Inn is located close (by Montana standards) to all activities and mid-way between great restaurants in Bozeman and Livingston. You should plan on a 20 minute drive on the interstate to either town for dinner.
The wolves add a real touch of the West. Each of them has a unique personality and it is fascinating to sit in the kitchen and watch them interract. The alpha male, the beta male, the omega male, the alpha female... and now they have two cubs to add a whole new dimension. The howling is actually rather soothing ...something I did not anticipate.
Howlers Inn is not fancy or glitzy, it is Montana casual and comfortable in all the best ways. Wear your jeans and pull up a chair with some great folks. In my opinion, this is what the B&B experience is all about. We can't wait to go back.

We stayed at the Inn for two nights. Unfortunately as a result of plane cancellations we did not arrive until late but the hosts stayed up to greet us (after we notified them of our problem). Even without the wolves this is a great place to stay but the wolves just make it better. After a late night the howling of the wolves in the early morning made up for the lack of sleep. We stayed around the inn longer than we had expected just to watch the interaction of the wolves.

The hosts were very accommodating and the breakfasts were as good as any B & B we have stayed at. It is in a great location. At dusk there were at least 30 deer on the fields in front of the Inn. It only takes around 15 to 20 minutes to drive to either Bozeman or Livingston making it a very convenient place to stay. No negatives.

We just spent a night at the HOwler's Inn, and it was paradise after staying in the Kelly Inn at West Yellowstone. The Inn is tucked into the Montana countryside, surrounded on all sides by green, green, and more green. We got the Aspen Room, which has two queen beds, a separate sink/vanity in the bedroom, a luxurious oversize bath with shower that has a skylight, lots of space both in the room as well as storage (small fridge, microwave too). Windows in three of the walls give fantastic views of mountains, ridges, and trees. At night it's so quiet you can hear yourself breathe. In the morning, we had a sumptuous breakfast that the owners lovingly created, and we were treated like very welcome guests throughout our stay.

A highlight of the Inn are the wolves they are sheltering on their land that can't live in the wild. It was fascinating to have this opportunity to observe them in action and to hear them howl, which actually sounds more like a lullaby, an enchanting song.

We are sorry we probably won't have the opportunity to stop their again, but we certainly would if we were ever in the area, and we can recommend the place highly to anyone who wants an extraordinary B&B experience.

The HOwlers has a website that shows pictures of the rooms, etc.
