“One of the best things in Billings”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 1, 2011

I get to Billings about three times a year. I always make sure that we schedule an evening at The Rex. Always is fantastic. I try to get something different every time I am ther and have yet to be disappointed. The people are friendly, the drinks are great, and the food is the best. As I said, I get there only about three times a year, but believe it or not, Tommy, the bartender remembers my name. Incredible place.....food,service, drinks, and atmosphere. Dont miss it.

“Our favorite place downtown to eat!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 1, 2011

This is one of the few really nice restaurants in Billings. We have had dinners here occasionally, and have had many, many, wonderful lunches. It's a long drive down from our house but well worth the drive. The food is excellent, and not at all over-priced. This is not fast-food, and you shouldn't expect to pay fast-food prices! It's wonderful to have this quality of a restaurant in town.

“Popular Spot with Locals, Historic Location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 30, 2011

We've kept going back to the Rex for many years -- in large part because every one else seems to, too. One of the greatest things is the almost certainty of bumping into friends. Our favorite apetizer is the wontons. The restaurant has so many choices -- from their smoked barbecue to steaks and seafood. Fresh oysters on the half shell!!! Broad wine and beer selection. It's always an enjoyable experience. I have a tough time getting past the prime rib but my husband usually enjoys one of their steaks with NEVER a complaint. I can't say that there's never been a problem meal over the years, but they were always quick to make amends. A luncheon star is their shrimp poor boy -- they bread the shrimp themselves and it is hard to get past it to try other things. Great bread. The historic Rex is one of the most interesting buildings in town and its choices between the dining room, more casual "patio" and in the summer outdoor dining beside the firepit, surely contribute to the central gathering place. Service is usually very good -- only exceptions has been on obviously very busy nights. While it is a more pricey restaurant, the menu has more affordable choices on their "patio" side.

“Always the best”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 15, 2011

I have been going to the Rex at least once a week door the past 26 years.
From day one it has always been great. I read a couple of the reviews and it fits the old adage you cannot please everyone. You want pricey, have lunch in L.A.
The best prime rib,the best steaks and the best Lobster. Today I had the Gumbo and my wife the soup de jour. I had a beer and my wife coffee. Our lunch bill under 15 bucks.
If that's pricey I suggest to the couple who said that to go to McDonalds, probably more in their price range.
The Rex lives up to their logo line of " Simply the best "

“over rated”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed April 10, 2011

This restaurant is great for summer patio drinks by the fire pit or a fun bar scene for cocktails and finger food on a cold night. For fine dining with excellent service, cuisine and genuinely pleasant staff go elsewhere. The food is not up to par with the prices charged, the wait staff lacks customer service skills and the beer soaked carpet needs to be replaced on the main floor and down the stairs to the restrooms. The Rex is a popular hang out for locals and for the after work downtown crowd more out of habit than for the quality.
